Lynda Lou Simon (Stilwell), 74, died on February 24, 2020 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She passed peacefully and was with her daughters.
Lynda was born in Oklahoma City on July 24, 1945 to Rusty and Nell Stilwell. She attended John Marshall High school. Following graduation she was a hairstylist for many years. In 1982, she opened Lynda’s Birkenstocks in Oklahoma City. Initially a small consignment clothing store on NW 36th street, Lynda began selling Birkenstocks and then other comfort shoes well before they became popular. She was always ahead of the curve and had a knack for knowing what people would like. Lynda’s Birkenstocks was in business for 38 years, and was a cornerstone of the Oklahoma City community through those years. It was a special place that we’ll always remember.
Lynda was kind, sweet, fun, and timeless. Her house was magical. She was generous to everyone in her life, especially her family. She was always forgiving and a peacemaker. She is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer Houston and her husband Brian & Jill Collins and her husband John, her sisters Connie Kenworthy and Vicki Stilwell, and perhaps most importantly her grandchildren Reyna and Coltrane Houston and Wyatt and Ellie Collins, whom she spoiled on holidays, birthdays, and any other day they were together.
Not surprisingly to those who knew her, Lynda did not want a funeral. She will be cremated and her ashes spread in a garden, as she always loved flowers and plants. Those wanting to remember Lynda are encouraged to go blow bubbles in a park with loved ones, or perhaps take a drive with family to Eischen’s for fried chicken. Lynda always wanted us to have fun.
