A little detail. A lot of tradition.

This Dehner boot was handcrafted for the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, and if you look closely, you’ll notice something unusual on the outside of the boot:

The No. 5 is upside down. That’s not a mistake.

It’s a Thunderbird tradition.

Thunderbird No. 5 is the Lead Solo, the pilot who performs many of the team’s signature inverted maneuvers. When No. 5 is flying upside down, the inverted “5” on the aircraft appears right-side up to the crowd.

We carry that same tradition onto the boot.

It’s one of those small details that most people might miss, but for those who know the Thunderbirds, it tells the whole story.

That rich cognac brown leather, warm, deep, and naturally varied across the hide, gives these boots a broken-in character right out of the gate. But underneath that refined appearance is some serious working construction.

The upper is secured to a leather welt, which is then stitched to the sole assembly. That mechanical connection creates a durable, serviceable boot built for years of wear, and when the time comes, the sole can be replaced rather than replacing the entire boot.

Heavy-Duty Big Lug Vibram® Sole
Underneath it all is a substantial Big Lug Vibram sole, built with aggressive tread for traction, stability, and durability when the ground gets ugly. Mud, gravel, concrete, job sites, these boots are made to put some miles behind them.

This custom Dehner Roper was created for a customer who wanted one boot that could do it all; a bold statement piece for her wardrobe and the perfect choice for gamedays.

She selected this striking scarlet leather herself, then we brought her vision to life with a decorative shaft design, individually hand-guided by our master craftsmen.

Built the way a Dehner boot should be built: full leather lining, Goodyear welt construction, a leather sole, and a classic Cuban heel.
