Yes, that is correct, 85%! Our commodity-based recycling recovers valuable materials such as steel, foam, fiber and textiles that have value to others across the United States. Our operations are important because once at a landfill, they are difficult to handle as they are large, bulky and difficult to compact. The springs, foam, and flexible materials can get caught in landfill equipment, create operational and safety challenges, and take up significant space compared with their weight.

Know before you dispose! As one of the Midwest’s only true recycler of mattresses and box springs, there are many more recoverable materials than just the metal. Trust the commodity based recycling process to keep more material away from the general waste stream ♻️

Mattresses are currently not banned by landfills but they do create a serious problem when it comes to disposal. They take up more than their fair share of space in landfills because they're difficult to compact, clog machinery, and create large soft spaces that can turn into sinkholes after filling. Before landfilling, check with a relative or thrift store who would be willing to take it. While this material can absolutely be recycled into new products, it also has a highly effective reuse purpose right at home, extending its life in raw form.

Our Eau Claire friends continue to do remarkable work!! 7 Rivers Recycling, your local community and our environment thank you!🤩♻️

Our first annual mattress recycling drop off event was a huge success!!!

We collected 260 mattress/box springs. That is a semi trailer and a half of mattresses that didn’t end up in our local landfill.

Including these 260 mattresses, we have now diverted 2,320 mattresses from our landfill since we began this program with 7 Rivers Recycling, LLC back in February 2022.

If you weren’t able to attend the event, we offer a pick up service year round.

Stay tuned for the date of our second annual event in 2025.

Update: With the additional units from UW-Stevens Point, landfill space saved jumped up to 5,232 cubic feet!!😍

Shoutout to our friends at Recycling Connections for hosting the areas first mattress recycling collection event this past Saturday (5/25). The word is out in the SP area that mattresses CAN be recycled and residents were excited to know so.

Because of this event, ~1,100 cubic feet of local landfill space was saved. Each mattress matters, thank you♻️🙂
