This next Design is more than just a design; it’s a story of love, heritage, and resilience. It honors the sacrifices of loved ones and the deep connections that keep us grounded, no matter where we are. Proud to be brown, proud to have served, and proud to honor those who stand by us through it all.
Lady Head Tattoo:
In traditional sailor tattoos, lady heads are symbols of a heroine, muse, or lover. For sailors thousands of miles from home, these tattoos served as a reminder of the loved ones they left behind. This design honors my wife, who sacrificed so much while holding down the fort during my deployments. It’s a tribute to her unwavering support and to all women supporting their men in service.
The Rose:
The rose symbolizes love, passion, and beauty. It’s a nod to the love and dedication my wife and I share, and to the enduring strength of all those who support their loved ones from afar.
Santa Barbara:
Santa Barbara, the patron saint of weaponeers, is featured prominently to honor my fellow AO brothers and sisters. She represents protection and guidance, blending my military service with my cultural heritage. May she continue to watch over us all.
Anchor:
The anchor on her back signifies stability and grounding, a crucial symbol for sailors. It represents my commitment to my military service while staying true to my roots.
“Homeport Heartbound”:
This phrase captures the essence of a sailor’s love for home. It’s a tribute to the idea that no matter where we go, our hearts are always anchored to our homeport. For me, this design is a token of appreciation for my wife and a salute to all the women holding it down for their men serving in the military.
Proud :
This design loudly declares my pride in my Chicano heritage. Growing up, I often felt stuck between not being Mexican enough or American enough. This artwork celebrates the blend of both worlds, embracing my identity with pride.
