Ever wonder why Vietnamese people are so “superstitious” during Tet? 🤔💭

As Vietnam’s most important holiday, there’s a lot of things we avoid to ensure a smooth welcoming of the new year 🌙. These folk traditions, passed down from generation to generation, is riddled with meaningful beliefs, funny legends and stories. Overtime, the reason why we still do these things are muddled and lost and we now just see them as quirky superstitions our elders swear by. Mai, Lan, Cúc, Trúc: The Four Seasons of Virtue 🌸🎋

“Mai lan cúc trúc quân tử khí,
Khiêm hòa nhẫn nhượng nhân giả phong.”

In Vietnamese culture, “Mai, Lan, Cúc, Trúc”, also known as Tứ Quý, represents the cycle of the seasons and the peak of human character 🌿. This shoot brings that vision to life through four groups of MVSC contestants, showing that true beauty is an outward expression of “Quân tử khí” (inner nobility) and “Nhân giả phong” (a kind, gentle demeanor).

🌼 Mai - Spring: Representing the start of the year, she symbolizes Resilience and Humility for blooming bravely in the cold.
🍃 Lan - Summer: Representing elegance, she symbolizes Grace and Harmony by spreading beauty and fragrance in a quiet, refined way.
🍂 Cúc - Autumn: Representing maturity, she symbolizes Patience and Endurance, as her petals never fall even when the flower withers.
🎋 Trúc - Winter: Representing the strength to survive the frost, she symbolizes Integrity and Poise for staying upright and “green” through every storm.

We had the honor of working with .oc and to bring this vision to life.
