To know us is to know that we love fashion history, and we love André Leon Talley. We decided to round up a group and take an exhibition trip for the closing of the “André Leon Talley: Style is Forever” Exhibition. Thank you SCAD MOA () for hosting a talk with curator Rafael Brauer Gomes (), fashion entrepreneur Antoine Gregory (), and fashion designer LaQuan Smith (), both of whom expressed their love and gratitude for the contributions André made in the global fashion industry.

“André Leon Talley: Style is Forever” is one of the most well-executed fashion exhibitions in recent memory!

Among the festivities was an award ceremony celebrating Pharrell Williams () as this year’s recipient of the André Leon Talley Lifetime Achievement Award - presented by The Dream () and the extraordinary visionary, SCAD President and Founder Paula Wallace () - at the Atlanta campus of SCAD () and a preview of the exhibition at SCADFASH ().

“Designed as a tribute to the legacy of fashion icon Patrick Kelly, whose revolutionary approach to fashion in the 1980s redefined the industry’s relationship with joy, color, and identity, this shoe juxtaposes the bold, athletic silhouette of the Air Force 1 with Kelly’s signature use of exaggerated, cartoonish forms of the Golliwog and its nods to African American folklore. Patrick Kelly passed away from complications of AIDS on January 1, 1990.”

Celebrating Black Influence in Fashion.

In honor and celebration of World AIDS Day, our collective of artists, designers, and mentees created a series of art installations aimed at raising money for 10 Central Florida healthcare agencies that serve patients living with HIV/AIDS!

See them live, this Wednesday, at Her Art Works! Tickets at the link in bio.

The installations include:

A 30-foot panel of fabric, adorned with messages of hope by three artists and community members, was draped into two fashion garments by two designers; ten Air Force 1s were created as shoes of innovation by eight artists; and two designers created red World AIDS Day dresses modeled during a dinner.
