Meet the real MVP of our store: my husband, Mr. Front Porch.
While you often see my face in the spotlight, he is the steady force making everything happen behind the scenes. His role is anything but glamorous, but it is 100% vital to keeping our doors open and our business running.
Mr. Front Porch is the definition of quiet faithfulness. He never wants recognition or applause. Instead, he is always ready to step in, roll up his sleeves, and help wherever needed—whether that means replacing a broken toilet (yesterday), mowing (today) heavy lifting (weekly), or any of the other invisible tasks that keep us afloat.
Our store wouldn't be what it is today without his constant support and hard work. He truly is the backbone of this business and my biggest blessing.

This morning has me thinking about grandmothers. If you are a grandma, this post is for you.❤️

Today I chose to wear a dress I purchased while on vacation. It’s loud. It’s bold. Contemplating the outfit caused my thoughts to turn to my grandmother. Quiet, stoic, kind. Those are words I would use to describe her. Yet, she fashioned her own clothing from fabric patterned with every color of the rainbow, standing in sharp contrast to her personality. My mother often tells me that I remind her of grandma. Her impression was somehow left on my soul.

One of my favorite parts of owning Front Porch Antiques is listening to customers comment as they walk-through, “Oh! My grandmother had this.“ Or, “Wow! Remember when grandma had this hanging on her wall? Whatever happened to that?“

As I finished getting ready for work this morning, checking my hair with the hand mirror from one grandmother, and straightening a dress reminiscent of the other, I was reminded that grandmas don’t have to try to be somebody special to their grandchildren. They just are. Our unconditional love and devotion to our grandchildren is the special sauce. Nothing else.

If you are a grandmother, rest in that. One day, your grandchildren, too, may be frequenting an antique store, reminded of you at every turn, and smiling at the thought of the one who loved them with no strings attached. ❤️

This beautiful, 6 volume set of George Bernard Shaw’s plays includes an interesting article about his life and death, clipped from the Kansas City Star on Nov 2, 1950.
