The Reading Room at Château de Chantilly was built for one of history's great bibliomaniacs - the Duke of Aumale - and it shows. Among its treasures sits the Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry, a 15th-century illuminated masterpiece so fragile it can no longer be displayed. The original is kept under lock and key. The world gets a digital copy.

This is what it looks like when someone decides their home deserves a real library.
Custom mahogany railings, iron picket balconies, a red marble fireplace, leather reading chairs - built to look a century old on the day it was finished. The brief to designer Barbara Fisher was simple: a timeless room that appears to have housed beloved books for generations.

He photostatted page 296, taped tracing paper over the enlargement, and went at the skeleton with a Rapidograph pen until it read as both an anatomical diagram and a threat. Crichton approved it in a single enthusiastic line. Three years later, Universal skipped new branding entirely and made that jacket the logo of the entire franchise. The Jeep. The patch on Dr. Grant’s shirt. The gates themselves.

We are currently offering that textbook. First edition, 1988, from Chip Kidd’s own library with his bookplates. Signed on the front free endpaper, “Source of the J.P. Logo! -C.” Page 296 carries his original drawings in blue and red pen, an almost exact replica of the final jacket, along with his working notes to himself: “Just the head?” and “Or Upper/Whole Body?” Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box by the Harcourt Bindery, signed by Kidd with a large original drawing of a Tyrannosaurus skull.
