I’m back!!! 💎 I just returned from a GIA course in New York City’s Diamond District, where I was handed dozens of “we buy gold” flyers advertising payouts that simply didn’t make sense mathematically. Since I know how the business works, I decided to put those claims to the test.
I walked into two different gold buyers on 47th Street with the same heavy 18k bracelet. Both were tucked away in dingy upstairs offices, and both offered roughly half of what their own advertising suggested they would pay. My suspicions were confirmed.
Here in Palm Coast, the advertising looks different, but the concept is often the same. Every couple of weeks my mailbox is filled with professionally designed mailers promoting traveling gold buying events at the Hilton Garden Inn on 100. The cards are professionally designed, professionally printed, polished, convincing and backed by an enormous advertising budget. Then, a few days later, they’re packed up and headed to the next town.
Village Jewelry has been buying estate jewelry in the same location since 2008, first as Palm Coast Gold Buyers and now as Village Jewelry. We’re not a temporary buying event, we’re not using bait-and-switch marketing tactics, and we’re not going anywhere. We’ve invested in a state-of-the-art XRF analyzer, one of the most accurate methods available for determining precious metal content. Not every buyer has this technology, and when you’re selling something as valuable as gold, that level of accuracy matters. Your jewelry is sorted, tested, weighed, and analyzed right in front of you. Nothing disappears into a back room.
If someone is advertising payouts that don’t make business sense, it’s worth asking yourself where the catch is. And with gold at historic highs, there has never been a more important time to choose an established, trustworthy local business that will still be in the same place tomorrow.
