A mermaid, like an Amazon of the sea, rides a wild hippocampus through the foaming waves. She grips the sea horse firmly by the head as they make their way across the stormy sea.

Around her, strange and uncanny creatures emerge from the waves and watch her in awe.

This one bothers me.

A Nevada hunter and social-media personality has publicly announced his intention to travel to Wyoming this September and kill 1090F, the 12-year-old matriarch of Yellowstone's Mollie's Pack.

Not simply a wolf. That wolf.

1090F is believed to be the oldest living wolf in the Yellowstone area. Mollie's Pack traces its history back to the original 1995 Yellowstone wolf restoration and is Yellowstone's oldest pack. This year, the pack moved outside the protection of the park and denned in Wyoming's Shoshone National Forest.

And that's where things get complicated.

Once those wolves leave Yellowstone, they're subject to Wyoming wildlife regulations. Wolf Hunt Area 1 opens September 15. Wyoming has authorized a combined quota of four wolves in Hunt Areas 1 and 2. The state declined requests to close the area to protect Mollie's Pack. So yes: a wolf can be legally hunted there.

But that's not really the debate this story raises for me.

The hunter, posting under the name Kyri Ranch, reportedly announced: “The matriarch 1090F is going down on the 15th of September.”

That's different from a hunter encountering a legal animal during an established hunting season.

He's publicly identifying one particular animal. An exceptionally old wolf. A collared, extensively observed animal with enormous research value. The matriarch of a historically important Yellowstone pack. And he's apparently making her the objective.

I'm not anti-hunting. Ethical, science-based hunting has a legitimate place in wildlife management.

But I think hunters themselves should be willing to ask where the ethical line is.

Does having the legal right to kill an animal automatically make deliberately targeting that particular animal ethical?

Interestingly, some hunting and wildlife voices in Wyoming are questioning the tone of this too. The Wyoming Wildlife Federation told Cowboy State Daily that hunting should be grounded in science-based wildlife management and that wildlife should be treated with respect.

There's another piece of context worth knowing.

Wyoming actually cut its 2026 wolf hunting quota by more than half after the northwest Wyoming wolf population fell to a 20-year low following a canine distemper outbreak.

So this isn't a story I want to turn into hunters versus wolf lovers.

Most hunters aren't traveling across state lines to kill a famous wolf because they saw her on social media.

This is a much narrower question. Wildlife management tells us what we're allowed to take. Hunting ethics help us decide what we should take.

And sometimes those aren't exactly the same thing.

Happy World Ocean Day! 🌊

On this important day I tagged some lovely ocean focused charities and scientific research groups focused on helping and supporting the ocean and its creatures! Make sure to check out slide 16 for a full list.

Also in need of more immediate attention check out videos by about the H.R. 3831 Bill called the Florida Safe Seas Act. This would impact Florida Shark Diving as well as many peoples jobs and even more importantly isn’t scientifically accurate. For more info check out their page as well as Stophr3881.0rg. We need 5,000 signatures by Friday! This bill would also heavily impact marine biology research as well as shark diving!

My son is also really in his shark era right now so it’s extra close to my heart especially now to bring awareness to this 🦈🌊

There are so many other wonderful ocean charities and research groups, feel free to tag any more below that I’m missing! 🫍🐬🦈🌊💙

Happy World Ocean Day! 🌊

The ocean is one of the most magical and important elements on our planet. The Ocean produces 50-80% of all the world’s oxygen. Without healthy oceans, we would not have enough air to breathe!

To have healthy oceans means to make sure we are supporting and protecting the balance of nature in the oceans. Recognizing the importance of sharks and other apex predators as well as not overtaking and polluting our oceans. There are so many important issues specifically relating to the ocean that need our attention. I hope this world Ocean Day we recognize the importance of our Ocean’s and what we can do to protect it and its creatures.

This video is a compilation of experiences I had when I was with & in Baja California Sur, Mexico on the most amazing Ocean Adventure. We were lucky to see so many beautiful creatures. It has been one of my favorite trips I have ever done and I can’t wait till I can go back again someday. I have always been a lover of the ocean, but this trip in particular made me feel so connected in a way that I will never forget.

Here’s Part 3 in my series of favorite Women Who Run With the Wolves Quotes. This book written by Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés, is one of those books that once you read it, your brain chemistry changes forever. And the more you read it, like the symbol of the spiral, the deeper the wisdom and symbolism is shown.

So an even better question to ask is, why is the wild woman important? Well she is the health of all women as Estés says. She is the one who can pick out the predator in real life and the subconscious. The one whose instincts are sharp as a blade, protector of all women and creator of all things. Additionally as Estés puts it she is La Que Sabe, the one who knows.

Let me know which quote is resonating with you 🐺🐾
