Today, Peer Solutions Ohio honored Overdose Awareness Day by wearing purple, placing butterflies on our wall, and remembering the lives of those we have lost.

Every butterfly represents a life that mattered. A person who was loved. A family who still feels their absence. A story that should never be forgotten.

We also want to make a promise to our community: we will continue to fight the good fight. We will continue showing up, opening our doors, answering the phone, and doing everything we can to never turn away someone who is reaching out for help.

Because sometimes all someone needs is one person to say, “Come in. We’ve got you.”

We pray that Peer Solutions will always be here to be the hand that reaches out and pulls someone in when they are struggling to find their way.

My name is James Mitchell, and Peer Solutions has been one of the greatest lights in my life. When I first came here, I was lost, scared, and living in a very dark place. I didn't know who I was anymore, and I didn't know what my future was going to look like.

With the help of Peer Solutions, the staff, and the people who have supported me along the way, I have started to find myself again. I've learned who I am, who I want to be, and what kind of man I want to become.

Today, I'm not just surviving, I'm living my life with purpose.

I've become a sponsor in a 12 step fellowship, and that means so much to me because I now have the opportunity to help someone else the way others have helped me. Recovery has shown me that I can be a man I am proud of, and every day I get the chance to become even better.

To all the staff at Peer Solutions: thank you from the bottom of my heart. I can never truly repay you for what you've shown me…a life I never thought I could have. You helped me see that there was hope when I couldn't see it for myself.

My name is Joseph Merricks, and I am an alcoholic.

For a long time, my life was a mess. My alcoholism created problem after problem, and I found myself struggling under the weight of everything that had piled up. I felt stuck and didn't know how to move forward.

Then I entered services at Peer Solutions in Marietta, Ohio, and it changed my life.

With the support, encouragement, and compassion I received from the staff, I was able to begin taking control of my life again. I was given the opportunity to heal from my past, get my mental health back on track, and overcome the barriers that had been holding me back.

I am incredibly thankful for every person who supported me and helped me along the way. Their kindness, understanding, and belief in me made a difference when I needed it most.

Peer Solutions has been a true place of grace and healing for me. I am grateful for the opportunity to rebuild my life, grow as a person, and move forward with hope for the future.

I will always be thankful for the people who helped me discover that recovery and a better life were possible.
