Run With Us

Run With Us Run With Us Run With Us was opened on February 1st 2000 by owners Peter and Maria Van Gansen. What kind of mileage are you doing? What are your goals?

Despite the incredibly active and health conscious community, as well as the presence of the beautiful Rose Bowl where thousands of runners and walkers can be found exercising daily, Pasadena did not have a store that specialized in running. Run With Us sought to fill that void, and from the start got involved with all the local organizations, high schools, doctors and running clubs, firmly rootin

g itself in the welcoming community. At first, the store was run solely by Peter and his wife Maria, who worked tirelessly to maintain their high standards in customer service as the store grew busier. Soon, though, Run With Us became so successful that more and more help was required; now it boasts one of the largest and most experienced staff in the industry, with over 110 years of combined experience, as well as the head Track and Field and Cross Country coach from Pasadena City College, the head Track and Field coach from South Pasadena High School and many other seasoned runners. Run With Us has always believed that it is essential to have runners helping runners—the staff has first hand experience with running injuries, training programs for everything from high school cross country to marathon racing, and most importantly, they know shoes! As you walk in the store you will be asked a few questions: What kind of injuries have you had? After that they will do a gait analysis and a balance test in order to help you find the perfect shoes for your foot type and for your particular activity, backing it all up with a 10 day guarantee. Run With Us has been named "best running store" in Southern California by "Los Angeles" magazine and "LA Sports & Fitness" magazine, and thanks to all its loyal customers and amazing community support, continues to be Pasadena’s premier running specialty store.

Griffith Park Trail Run + Hike Stewardship thanks to our friends from rabbit

Join us at Griffith Park for great trails, big views, and a little trail stewardship along the way thanks to our friends at rabbit who were kind enough to provide us with all the materials that will be used on this run.

Before we start, Griffith Park Ranger Lara will share a few tips on trail safety and etiquette. We’ll also have bags and gloves available for anyone who wants to pick up trash along the route. We love Griffith, and taking care of the trails is part of being a good trail runner.

Bring water! The short route has one fountain around mile 1.6, while the long route has additional fountains near the Observatory and Bill Eckert. A handheld or vest is recommended, along with a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

DETAILS:
Date: Sunday, August 30th
Time: 7am meet, 7:15am Ranger chat and photos, 7:25am run
Distance: 11 and 7 mile run options / 4 mile hike
Location: Griffith Park & Southern Railroad

Route Descriptions:
All three groups will start together, climbing Coolidge Trail to 5 Points for sweeping views toward Downtown LA and a group photo.

Long Run: Head toward the Greek, climb to the Observatory and Mt. Hollywood, then descend Bill Eckert Trail and return via Upper Zoo and Lower Beacon. Lots of views and lots of turns, so we’ll regroup along the way and make sure everyone is accounted for.

Short Run: Continue up to the helipad for one of Griffith’s classic city views, then descend back through Fern Canyon, Upper/Lower Zoo, and Lower Beacon.

Hikers: Descend Fern Canyon, then loop back on Lower Beacon Trail with views of the LA River and La Kretz Bridge.

Parking: We’ll meet at Griffith Park and Southern Railroad (links to parking on our website). There is a large lot right there, plus a lot just before and a dirt lot that opens as overflow parking.

We have two new styles for you this week!! One is one of the most reliable stability shoes in the industry for years in the Asics GT 2000 15 and a new marathon racing shoe with plenty of toe space in the Topo Athletic Specter Elite.

Asics has just updated one of the most trusted and reliable stability shoes in the industry with the GT 2000 15. In this update they’ve added a little extra midsole material underfoot while also making it softer. The GT 2000 franchise is all about reliable support for your every day runs.

If you’re looking for a racing shoe that can take on the marathon distance while giving your toes extra room, the Topo Athletic Specter Elite might just be the shoe you’ve been waiting for. A responsive midsole, aggressive rocker, and roomy toe box make for a comfortable ride all the way to your PR.

If you’re into trails it’s hard to find a staple that’s been tried and trusted more than the Brooks Cascadia franchise.

The Brooks Cascadia 20 is a stable, protective ride with excellent Vibram Megagrip so you can bite into loose dirt, wet rocks, and uneven single tracks with confidence.

We’ve had a ton of new styles come in the past month, so if you’re looking for road or trail we have plenty to choose from!
