Griffith Park Trail Run + Hike Stewardship thanks to our friends from rabbit
Join us at Griffith Park for great trails, big views, and a little trail stewardship along the way thanks to our friends at rabbit who were kind enough to provide us with all the materials that will be used on this run.
Before we start, Griffith Park Ranger Lara will share a few tips on trail safety and etiquette. We’ll also have bags and gloves available for anyone who wants to pick up trash along the route. We love Griffith, and taking care of the trails is part of being a good trail runner.
Bring water! The short route has one fountain around mile 1.6, while the long route has additional fountains near the Observatory and Bill Eckert. A handheld or vest is recommended, along with a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
DETAILS:
Date: Sunday, August 30th
Time: 7am meet, 7:15am Ranger chat and photos, 7:25am run
Distance: 11 and 7 mile run options / 4 mile hike
Location: Griffith Park & Southern Railroad
Route Descriptions:
All three groups will start together, climbing Coolidge Trail to 5 Points for sweeping views toward Downtown LA and a group photo.
Long Run: Head toward the Greek, climb to the Observatory and Mt. Hollywood, then descend Bill Eckert Trail and return via Upper Zoo and Lower Beacon. Lots of views and lots of turns, so we’ll regroup along the way and make sure everyone is accounted for.
Short Run: Continue up to the helipad for one of Griffith’s classic city views, then descend back through Fern Canyon, Upper/Lower Zoo, and Lower Beacon.
Hikers: Descend Fern Canyon, then loop back on Lower Beacon Trail with views of the LA River and La Kretz Bridge.
Parking: We’ll meet at Griffith Park and Southern Railroad (links to parking on our website). There is a large lot right there, plus a lot just before and a dirt lot that opens as overflow parking.
