Let’s get geeky with some exciting downtown data!

Thanks to our friends in Gibson City for sharing this information with us. The data comes from a highly regarded subscription service that uses mobile device activity to estimate visits within a defined downtown district.

For this analysis, “downtown Paxton” includes the highlighted streets on the map. A “visit” means a mobile device entered that defined area, with the data filtered to help separate regular employees and routine activity from consumer visits.

For example, if you live in Paxton and come downtown for breakfast, shopping, an appointment, or an event, that visit may be counted. If you work downtown every day for most of the day, that activity is generally filtered out.

The big takeaway: Downtown Paxton showed the strongest year-over-year visitation growth among the communities analyzed in 2023, 2024, and 2025.

That means more people are coming downtown over time. This is an encouraging sign for local businesses, events, community activity, and continued investment in the heart of Paxton.

The City of Paxton, Paxton Main Street, Paxton Area Chamber of Commerce, local businesses, property owners, and community partners all play a role in building that momentum. More reasons to visit downtown can lead to stronger businesses, a healthier local economy, and long-term community benefit.
