Comin right along…

I haven’t stopped since I spoke to you last. Working on building out the interior and realizing the exterior painting/drawing is probably going to be an evolving process that changes and grows over time.

I think Amelia’s robot is my favorite part so far… and there will probably be t-shirts featuring it.

I’m about to pull the trigger on a power setup that can comfortably run lighting, cooling, charging, and eventually expand with solar so this thing can really function as a little mobile creative space instead of just a painted bus in my driveway. I’ve decided I’m not going to cheap out on that part because I want us to actually be comfortable in there and have it function well long term.

And whew… this s**t is EXPENSIVE. 😅

This project only exists because so many people believed in it after everything with the shop fell apart. Every share, donation, encouraging message, random tool recommendation, and “keep going” has genuinely helped keep this thing moving.

I am having a pretty great time learning all these new skills though. I’m also very happy I didn’t panic-sell the shop fixtures because I’ve ended up repurposing almost all of them. I even built those wheel well boxes out of wood I found during bulk pickup night.

And maybe all this carpentry will finally teach me to measure twice and cut once with my sewing.

I’ll be closing the GoFundMe on May 31, so if you’ve been meaning to share it or contribute, now’s the time. Thank you all for helping me turn this wild little dream into something real.

Amelia painted a rainbow and I painted a bus. It’s not quite done, but it’s Done-ish… enough that I was able to start the interior fixtures and even make some clothes! I plan to be outside
for Open Studios June 6,7th with all the upcycled clothes I can manage to make by then. I don’t think the bus will be quite ready to debut by then but you’ll have to settle for me under a tent. Speaking of retake remake, Huge thank you to founder for her super generous donation towards completing the bus. Thank You All of You! It is getting there! ❤️

Seats are OUT.

This wasn’t the cute part.

Hours of unbolting. One person above, one under the bus — arms wrapped around the axle, body jammed into the undercarriage, swallowing rust, dodging sharp metal, gripping for dear life.

Every bolt pushed back.

And in the end… we had to saw the last two out. Hidden behind the gas tank. No other way.

Seats out. Bus swept.
For the first time it feels like something I’m about to build.

And I didn’t wait. I went and bought the flooring.

This is getting real… and real expensive.
$9,000 raised so far, $7,422 already in — and we haven’t even touched the pretty part yet.

Next: paint, electrical, floors. (Not in that order)

If you’ve been following, sharing, donating — you’re part of this. That’s the reason this is moving at all.
For anyone wondering what this actually costs:

* Bus: $5,000 (2010 with 95k miles (well maintained)
* Commercial Insurance (6 months): $1,500
* Registration/tax: $422
* Labor: $100
* Tools & materials: $400

Total so far: $7,422. Onward! ❤️⚒️.

I was over zealous about the unbolting the seats day one. I’ve called in back up for that. In the meantime I got to scrapin’. DAY 1, 8 hours and 99 % exterior stuff scraped! The letters were pretty easy once they were warm enough but there were a ton of em! The tape was nasty and would crack in two pieces leaving a thick layer of adhesive to go over but I started to get the hang of it. Only one burned cord and sore fingernail. ❤️ Hopefully to the DMV today, say a prayer to the insurance Gods to go easy on me. 😅 Xo-J

Look who’s home! This happened because of all of you! The GoFundMe support got me here, and I don’t take that lightly.

Now the work starts.

First up:– rip out all the seats 💺– paint– figure out electrical– floors, luckily I saved all the hand built fixtures from the shop so they will be repurposed for the bus.

There’s still a long way to go on the build, so if you’ve shared, donated, or plan to — thank you. And if you want to keep following or pass this along, it really does help.

If you’ve got skills, ideas, or want to lend a hand, I’m open. What color are we thinking? 🤔 I was planning on the same Blue as the Quirkshop sign but maybe something completely different?

I’ll be documenting the whole process as it happens.

Alright…if you need me I’ll be trying to unbolt seats. 💺 ❤️🚍
