✂️ QUILT CONFIDENCE QUICK TIP

When you're cutting or trimming, put the ruler line ON the fabric edge—not beside it.

That tiny difference may not look like much on one cut, but those little fractions can add up across an entire quilt block.

Accurate quilting isn't about perfection. It's about giving yourself fewer little problems to fix later. 😉

🧵 A little longarm therapy tonight...

This T-shirt quilt is officially on the longarm, and this is the stage where I get to watch all those individual pieces start becoming one finished quilt. ❤️

Different shirts. Different colors. Different memories. One continuous quilting design tying it all together.

There’s just something satisfying about watching those stitches roll across each shirt and into the next. 😍

Next stop: binding!

🧵 QUILT LOVERS—DON’T MISS THIS! 🧵

The Kentucky State Fair wraps up THIS SUNDAY, August 30, so if you haven’t made it to the quilt exhibit yet, time is running out! ⏰

There were SO many beautiful quilts on display that choosing favorites wasn’t easy, but here are a few that stopped me in my tracks. ❤️ The colors, the piecing, the quilting, the creativity...there is some incredible talent hanging in that room!

And yes...somewhere in there you might just spot a quilt from A Ribbon Run Thru It, too. 😉🧵

If the fair is on your weekend plans, make sure you leave time for the quilts!

That ¼-inch seam… it sounds simple enough, right? 😆

But if you’ve ever wondered why your finished blocks aren’t quite measuring what they should, your seam allowance may be part of the answer.

One of the biggest aha! moments for me when I was learning to quilt was realizing I needed to stop watching the needle. The needle isn’t going anywhere! Instead, I needed to watch the edge of my fabric and the guide I was using.

In my newest Quilt Confidence post, I’m sharing several ways to find a consistent ¼-inch seam—from your presser foot and machine markings to tape, seam gauges and magnetic guides—plus a simple way to test your seam before starting a project.

Because the goal isn't a mathematically “perfect” seam. It’s finding what works for you, your machine and your fabric. 🧵

Ever look at a beautiful print and think, “I love it...but what in the world do I put with it?”

Start with the fabric itself.

Look closely at your focal print and pull out a few of the colors you see. Then look for coordinating fabrics in those colors, mixing in different values and quieter prints to give your eye somewhere to rest.

That's exactly how Golden Hour Garden came together. 🌸

The floral gave me the roadmap: golden yellow, purple and soft neutrals. Instead of trying to invent a color palette from scratch, I simply followed what was already there.

And that's one of my favorite little secrets to choosing fabric:

You don't always have to be good at picking colors. Sometimes you just have to be good at noticing them. ❤️

That's Quilt Confidence.

🌸 This Week’s Fabric Palette: Golden Hour Garden

Sometimes one fabric does all the work of choosing the color palette for you.

Golden Hour Garden starts with that beautiful floral—warm coral, golden yellow, deep blue and purple—and pairs it with coordinating fabrics that pull those colors right back out of the print.

No standing in the fabric aisle wondering, “Does this actually go together?” 😂

Just a ready-to-sew palette with plenty of color, contrast and possibilities.

🔎🧵 LET'S PLAY A LITTLE GAME!

The Kentucky State Fair opens today, and somewhere among all those beautiful quilts hanging on display is one made by yours truly. ❤️

So... can you find it?

If you're headed to the fair, here's your mission:

📸 Find my quilt in the quilt exhibit.
🤳 Take a photo of yourself with it—or just a photo of the quilt if you'd rather stay behind the camera.

💬 Post your photo in the comments on THIS post or send it to me in a private message.

Everyone who finds it and sends me a photo will be entered into a drawing for a curated fabric bundle from A Ribbon Run Thru It! 🎁

I'll give you one little hint...

👀 It's colorful.

Okay, that's probably not terribly helpful at a quilt show. 😂

Have fun, enjoy all the incredible work on display, and HAPPY HUNTING!

Entries accepted through August 30th. Winner will be drawn September 1st.

This giveaway is sponsored by A Ribbon Run Thru It and is not affiliated with or sponsored by Facebook or the Kentucky State Fair.

There’s a lot more happening behind a T-shirt quilt than you see from the front. 🧵

Over the last few weeks, I’ve shared a little of what happens in my studio when a stack of well-loved shirts becomes a quilt—planning, stabilizing, cutting, arranging, piecing and plenty of decisions along the way.

My newest blog post wraps up this little T-shirt quilt conversation with a look behind the scenes—and why these quilts are about much more than sewing shirts together.

And while there are still T-shirt quilts on my worktable, next week we're getting back to some everyday Quilt Confidence tips.

First up?

That little ol' ¼-inch seam that can make a surprisingly BIG difference. 😉

📌 I'll put the link to the new blog post in the comments.

🧵 A little behind-the-scenes from the sewing room...

This T-shirt quilt is starting to come together!

What you don't see from the front of a finished memory quilt is all the work happening on the back. Each shirt has been stabilized to give that soft, stretchy T-shirt fabric some structure, and now I'm working my way through the piecing and sashing.

I love this stage because that stack of shirts is finally starting to look like a quilt. ❤️

And every one of those shirts has a story attached to it—which makes putting them together into something that can be used and enjoyed pretty special.

More progress to come... 🧵

Question for you: Do you have a stack of T-shirts tucked away somewhere that you can't bring yourself to part with?
