American Trench

American Trench USA made - always. Enduring value, resonant design, beautiful materials - those are the things that matter to us. Here are five things we believe:

1.

Launched December 31st, 2012, American Trench was founded to bring forward the exceptional manufacturing that exists within the United States. A trench coat purchased in London in 2009 inspired a three year quest to bring our first product to market – the American Trench. On December 31st, 2012, American Trench launched commercially via the crowd funding platform Kickstarter. Exposure to new facto

ries during this journey expanded our mission beyond outerwear to include USA made socks, knit accessories, and apparel. Our first completely realized accessories collection arrived in FW14 to over 50 retailers. The principles that guide American Trench and define our brand can be stated very concisely. Make beautiful products. Without beauty there is no product.
2. Create products of enduring value using quality materials and superior construction.
3. Strive for Resonance in everything we do. Products that have resonance come from focus, attention to detail, and the quest for perfection.
4. Never be complacent with design. The next iteration must be better.
5. Everything we make will be manufactured in the USA. With determination it can be done.

The relationship between tea and menswear, from Jacob, wearing the Flight Suit at home:

“In college, I learned that I have an arrhythmic reaction to coffee, so tea is my performance booster of choice. It’s also become a deep passion. My tea drinking ritual is morning focused, specifically around black tea which has the highest amount of caffeine. When I first got into tea, I stuck to the classics. Mostly pre-made breakfast blends. Then, I started trying single estates from the Assam Valley of India. The interest grew deeper, and I eventually began adding a black tea from China, called Pu-erh, for a little earthy funk. I started to blend them together so each region brought something unique to the flavor profile.

The same process is holds in clothing and textiles. First you try the classics, get to know the lay of the land, find out what you like, then explore and see what else is out there. The searching covers fit, material, and make. Each part of it contributes to creating something refreshing, and that is the truly fun of it.”

Jacob’s Primary Recipe:
Using a 36oz, 6-cup tea pot from , blend:
2 tablespoons of Assam CTC (Crushed Tea Curl)
1 teaspoon of Royal Pu-erh
1 teaspoon of English Breakfast

Steep at 212 degrees and add a splash of milk, plus a little bit of sugar to mellow it out. Enjoy to start the day.

Hot or cold... spring or fall... the Merino Utility Sweater lives up to its name.

A sweater with the fit, feel and comfort of your favorite thermal long sleeve, but with a polished look appropriate for an office setting. We're particularly proud of the vintage WWII details along the neckline and above each wrist. This is legitimately cool.
