“USA basketball better get some NBA stars that know how to play a role. Anybody can be nice with the ball in their hands but can you be cool with defending and going to the corner for a few possessions?”

That’s what Kyle Kuzma tweeted after Team USA’s disappointing 2023 FIBA World Cup

“I’ll do it,” tweeted Devin Booker.

And the jokes ran wild. American and international fans alike were roasting Booker, a star in the NBA known for his scoring and… well, not much else.

Boy did he prove everyone wrong.

Named a starter for Team USA, Devin Booker’s impact was immediately felt. He picked up 94-feet, took on the best offensive players, and didn’t need the ball in his hands at all in order to be effective.

He finished as USA’s 4th leading scorer, the majority of his looks coming as a floor spacer for the big guys like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant.

Booker shot a Team-USA high 56.5% from 3 in the Olympics.

By the end of the Olympics, his “I’ll do it tweet” turned was a thing of legends.

Booker talked that talk and then backed it up.

“Devin Booker is an incredible basketball player,” said Steve Kerr after the gold medal game. “Nobody asked about him. He was our unsung MVP. I just wanted to say that.”

We can’t wait to see who steps up into the Devin Booker role in 2028, when he’s expected to be a headliner in the Los Angeles games.
