"When the doctors told him his wife had only three days left, he leaned over her hospital bed and, hiding his satisfaction behind a cold smile, whispered:
āAt last, everything you own will be mine.ā
What he didnāt realize was that inside the heart of the woman he believed to be obedient, a plan was already taking shapeāprecise, calculated, and ruthlessly calm.
When LucĆa opened her eyes, the world felt distant, almost unreal. Her body was heavy with pain, as if weighed down by metal, while the steady beeping of hospital machines filled the room. Voices drifted in from the hallwayāquiet, clinical.
āHer condition is critical⦠liver failure is advancing⦠at most, three daysā¦ā
The second voice she recognized instantly. Her husband. Alejandro.
A tightness gripped her chest.
She didnāt move. Her eyes barely opened as she remained completely still.
The door creaked open.
Alejandro walked in carrying a large bouquet of white liliesāflowers she had always disliked. His face wore the same polished, attentive smile admired by his colleagues. He sat beside her, took her hand, and lightly brushed his fingers over her wrist, as if checking her pulse.
Believing the sedatives had left her fully unconscious, he leaned in and whispered softly:
āThe apartment in Madrid, the accounts in Geneva, the controlling shares⦠soon, all of it will be mine.ā
There was no sadness in his tone. No warmth. Only impatienceāand certainty.
Moments later, he stepped back into the hallway, slipping effortlessly into the role of the devoted husband.
āPlease⦠do everything you can. She means everything to meā¦ā
The door shut behind him.
LucĆa inhaled slowly. Anger spread through her chest, sharp and controlled. Though her body was weak, her mind became startlingly clear.
Soft footsteps approached.
āMaāam⦠can you hear me?ā a gentle voice asked.
A young nurse stood at the doorway, her dark hair tied neatly back. Her badge read: Carmen Ruiz.
āAre you in pain? I can call the doctor.ā
Suddenly, LucĆa grasped her wrist with unexpected strength. Her body was fragile, but her voice was steady.
āListen carefully. If you help me with what Iām about to ask, your life will change. I promise you wonāt have to depend on this place forever.ā
Carmen froze. āI donāt understandā¦ā
A faint smile appeared on LucĆaās lipsācalm, unwavering.
āHe thinks I canāt hear him. He thinks heās already won. But heās wrong. Youāre going to help me⦠and together, weāll dismantle everything heās planned. And he wonāt even notice when it all begins to slip away.ā
Silence filled the room.
But this time, it wasnāt the silence of an ending.
It was the quiet before something new begins.
