Throw Back Thursday. The Kent house is around the corner from MacAlpine's and down 8th Street. The original owner of the house lived there until the late 1980s. The wood clapboard two-story house was constructed in 1920. Note the windows on the second floor. Ventilation for the house before evaporative coolers or air conditioning. The older picture was taken in 1938.

We just won Best Phosphate of the Valley! Thank you PHOENIX magazine!

"Served alongside other old-timey beverages like egg creams and malts at this throwback retro emporium, the phosphates have a bracing sour tinge. The dizzying menu of flavors ranges from standards like cherry to the spinach-green Popeye (a kiwi and lime concoction) to the surprisingly refreshing dill pickle."

Throw Back Thursday. These high summer temps make us dream about the cooler winter months. Back in the 1930s we actually had snow in the "hood" that stayed on the ground at least long enough for a picture like this. And believe it or not, this house is one block east of MacAlpine's. We'll keep dreaming even though it probably will never snow in the hood again.

Throw Back Thursday When State Route 51 was constructed, hundreds of houses like these were demolished. But a few (8 to be exact) were moved into the Coronado neighborhood onto empty lots. These two on the 2200 block of Dayton are not too far east of MacAlpine's.
