This client came to me after five years of no Halloween celebrations for herself. Her Japanese mother and grandmother would always handmake her costumes, with lots of sparkles and love. So accepting this project was a huge test of care and connection to be able to create something that ties so deeply to our family and long held traditions.
I channeled my own mother and grandmother doing the same for me while creating this, totally badass, queen of the fu**in night, Cyberpunk Samurai costume for her. I let myself get overexcited and possibly indulgent- jacket from a woven gradient brocade, plate chainmail skirt, custom decals on the sleeve linings/bag/glove/keychains, a chatelaine, reflective accents, leather, satin, studs, spikes, piercings. How much of a shebang can we get!

Long awaited! Personal lessons for beginner and intermediate sewists 🌱🌿 DM to schedule time with me to learn how to use your sewing machine (or your grandmas machine that’s been collecting dust. Let’s use that baddie- the machine not your grandma)
Also an option is project assistance: if you just can’t seem to get these corners sharp, confused on textiles, or want to learn to draft your own patterns let’s make some time!

“machinemachine, a critique on the trauma of labor under capitalism,” hosts an opening reception at the Red Floor Gallery (41 W Southern Ave, Tempe) on Saturday, February 22 from 6-10p.

This exhibit hosts 20 national and local multimedia artists who express their critiques on capitalism through a variety of artworks including sculptures, fiber artworks, quilts, paintings, interactive art, and collage.
