August is National Breastfeeding Month so we're talking all things breastfeeding! 🍼🍼🍼

Feeding babies can look different from family to family. Some parents breastfeed, some pump, some use formula, and some combine different methods along the way. Whatever the approach, feeding a baby can be exhausting, confusing and, at times, even isolating.

With August being National Breastfeeding Month, it’s a great opportunity to talk about the many ways families feed their babies and the support parents need along the way.

What your baby wears matters during sleep.

Choose lightweight, well-fitting sleepwear that helps prevent overheating and does not pose a suffocation or strangulation risk. Remove hats, bibs, headbands, teething necklaces, clothing with strings or hoods, and loose blankets before placing baby to sleep.

A wearable blanket, such as a sleep sack or Snoozzzette™, can help keep baby warm without adding loose bedding to the sleep space. A well-fitting cotton or fleece sleeper is another option, depending on the room temperature.

There are some moments that remind us that love is a language shared far beyond our own species.

Watching this mother dolphin remain close to her baby is a powerful reminder of something we often struggle to put into words: a mother’s love does not end simply because a life ends.

For parents who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, infant loss, or the loss of a child, your grief is not something to “move on” from. It is a reflection of a love that continues long after others can no longer see it.

As a maternal nurse, I have learned that one of the greatest gifts we can offer grieving parents is not advice or explanations—it is our willingness to sit with them, to speak their baby’s name, to acknowledge that their child mattered, and to recognize that their love is still very much alive.

Grief is not a measure of weakness.
It is the measure of love.

If this video stirs something within you, let it also remind you to check on the parents carrying invisible grief. Some are mourning a pregnancy that never made it home. Some are grieving a newborn. Some are remembering a child whose birthday still comes every year.

Love leaves an imprint that time does not erase.

Today, may every grieving parent know this:
Your baby mattered.
Your child matters.
And your love will always have a place in this world.

Imagine ACOG researching postpartum and birth concierge nurses as they don’t for the most part even realize nurses are doing this work privately to support women in their pregnancies and postpartum care.

Doulas, Newborn Care Specialists, Midwives, and Nurses all can be the most profound resources for patients.

Health care in the United States is increasingly team-based, and doulas—who often provide emotional, physical, and educational support for patients during birth, the postpartum period, and beyond—are valuable members of many care teams.

ACOG’s new clinical guidance encourages ob-gyn collaboration with doulas and gives ob-gyns the tools they need to better understand a doula’s role. It also highlights the importance of stronger partnerships between clinicians and doulas, which can provide vital support across the lifespan—including during and after pregnancy—and can lead to better patient outcomes.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently issued a recall on GOPO TOYS Pull String Teething Toys. The recalled teething toys violate the mandatory standard for toys because the silicone strings are smaller and longer than permitted. The strings can reach the back of a child’s throat and become lodged, posing a serious risk of respiratory distress and deadly choking hazard.

The recalled teething toys were sold online at Amazon.com from August 2023 through March 2026 for between $11 and $15. The teething toys consist of an off-white disc shape with a gray ball in the center and six multi-colored, silicone tentacle-looking pull strings that run through the ball. The brand name and “Pull String Toy” is printed on the front of the packaging, and the batch number 250905, 250530, 250120, 240315, 231005 or 230610 is on the back of packaging.

Consumers are advised to stop allowing their infant to use the teething toy immediately and contact GOPO TOYS to receive a full refund. Consumers will be asked to destroy the toy by cutting all silicone strings and writing in permanent marker “DESTROYED” on the main body of the toy, and to send a photo to [email protected].
