Truth be told, I started my business at 28 years old with 10 years of experience in retail and the help of Google and YouTube 🤣

3 things I'd tell myself back then, based on what I know now:

1) Knowing your customer > chasing trends. Listen to what your customers want and notice what they are ready for. Sometimes trends hit later here in Gloucester County or they don't hit here at all. Keep focusing on what works and implement that. Trust your taste and your gut to pick the pieces that speak to the heart of MP.

2) You will become more resilient than you'd ever imagine. Owning this business will build you and your character immensely, and some of the lessons will be hard-won. Challenges will test you beyond what you think you can handle, but consistency, faith in God and the support of a great team will get you through.

3) Be willing to change and try new things. Running a small business is constantly evolving, and you have to be willing to adapt and grow. You'll change locations, POS systems, social media platforms, etc. multiple times. It never ends (which can be exhausting), but that's also the beauty of growth. It'll help you prove to yourself that you can accomplish new things over and over again not just in business, but in your life.

Krista was one of those “helpers.” I'm so sad to learn of her passing. While I didn't know her personally, she helped me at two different really difficult times in business. I will forever be grateful for her compassionate spirit. The Gloucester County business community lost a true advocate and light.

During the pandemic when the bank I'd been with for 10+ years wouldn't even respond to any of my requests for help, I was introduced to Krista who worked at a completely different bank at the time. She helped me get a PPP loan quickly and easily. I still have a voicemail from her on my phone introducing herself back then.

I was directed to meet with Krista again last year at an extremely difficult time in my life, and she showed up for me with such an empathetic spirit. While we only met briefly, I carried her business card in my wallet knowing that I had someone special who could help me should I ever need her again. It's still in my wallet.

She gave so much of her knowledge and experience to the Economic development committee, Harrison Township Beautification, the Willowbrook HOA and PTA. Krista leaves a loving husband and two beautiful young children.
