Quilty Summer Chapter 05: Hens and Chickens🌈

The final quilt block I learned to sew this summer: Hens & Chickens! I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this one, but I'm glad my kiddos encouraged me to try as I ended up liking it so much more than I expected🐔

And just like that, I have 4 more blocks to add to my stash, for a total of 21 quilt blocks🎉 Just 4 more blocks to reach my goal of 25-blocks for a mini quilt top!! Are you ready to see all the blocks together?! Stay tuned💛

Hydrangeas💙 Here’s my take on a hydrangea pattern for this week’s Spoonflower Design Challenge! Full Bloom Hydrangea Garden with Cute Snails🐌

I decided to really lean into my style for this one. In the past, I would try different styles for these challenges, but lately I’ve been trying to narrow my focus a bit and ask myself: What is my take on this prompt? What would make me feel, yes, I designed that, and something that feels like me, not someone I’m not.

So I drew the hydrangeas with stylized, hand-drawn charm and, of course, couldn’t resist adding a little snail family 🐌

Quilty Summer Chapter 04: Sawtooth Stars: my favorite (so far) ⭐️ I was quite ambitious to tackle this one as my third quilt block but I finally started to get the hang of it after these four ⭐️

This was my first time trying flying geese, and getting those seams to line up took some trial and error😅 I also learned the importance of pressing your seams after every step the hard way🙃 The next four I made (woops forgot to take pics) look way better because of this, mark my word😂

So I ended up making 8 sawtooth star quilt blocks🎉 Out of these first four… which one is your favorite? 😍

Say hello to the BRIGHT + COOL colorway of Wonderful World🌎

This is the colorway that I know I'll probably run out of first! I'm starting with 3 of these prints for my shop's fall/winter release that's in the works😍 This colorway is also closest to my original vision for this collection, so it's exciting to finally hold this stack in my hands💙

🌈 Quilty Summer Chapter 03: Rainbow Log Cabin 🌈 I'm realizing that the end of summer is quickly approaching yet I have so much more to share😱 I'll try to pick up my pace here so it won't be winter by the time I'm done sharing🤣

Ok, so after making 8, 16-patch blocks, I thought I just needed one more block to go in the center for a small wall hanging ! So naturally, I decided to try a log cabin block for the first time! Yes, it is VERY wonky😂 but I love it nonetheless!

Once I put the log cabin in the middle of my 8 16-patch blocks, I had my first 9-block quilt!I could have called this done but my kids had another idea. They wanted me to keep going⭐️

So 9 blocks became the beginning rather than the end😍 Which leads me to...my next set of blocks which I will share next, which quickly became one of my favorites⭐️

Quilty Summer: Chapter 02💛 My first quilt block (!!) plus 16-patch block madness 🧵

Oh the thrill! I made my first quilt block, a 16-patch🥳!! As wonky as it looks (those rectangles are supposed to be squares🫣), it was an absolute JOY! It was extra special using fabrics from my own fabric collection, Wonderful World🥹

I was way too excited after the first, I kept going and made 7 more!! I kind of skipped the pressing step (and those seams were not perfectly 1/4 inch) 😱 but hey I'll do better next time (learned my lesson the hard way)😬

At this stage, I had no idea I would end up making 3 more different quilt blocks 🤯 but I already knew I was in trouble😉 (aka bitten by the quilting bug)💕 Stay tuned for Chapter 03!

Say hello to the BRIGHT + WARM colorway of Wonderful World🌎💕

If I had to pick one colorway that feels the most me, it might just be this one😍

To be honest, I was a little nervous the fuchsia colorway of Out of This World might be tooooo pink... but silly me😂 I absolutely love how bright and happy it turned out, and I think it would make the sweetest statement baby gifts💗

And of course, I love pairing the warm and cool colorways together (that's exactly what I'm doing for my Quilty Summer project)🌈

💛MY QUILTY SUMMER Chapter 01: Cutting and Organizing Fabrics💛
I often just jump into a project without a whole lot of planning but this step was so important because it set the stage to slow down and enjoy the simple joys of folding fabric and appreciating the entire line of rainbow colors in both the bright and neutrals😍

It felt scary to cut into these beautiful fabrics, but I realized that THAT is the whole point💛 These fabrics are meant to be cut and pieced together to create something even more beautiful and I am here for it!!!

You're probably not surprised that I chose the bright colorway for my first ever quilt 😉 but I am excited to explore the peaceful neutral colorway later this year🤍

Thanks for following along my newbie quilter journey!! Next up I'll be sharing my first ever (wonky) quilt block (oh the thrill!)💛
