Meditation: a practice where an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness, or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state.
A lot of people assume that this is the only “look” that meditation has - which is totally wrong. Don’t get me wrong, when I am in an easy seated position having background queues reminding me to breathe and forget everything else for a couple minutes, those are my most mindful minutes, but it’s not always possible. Lately, I have been trying to connect with my breath and my thoughts, even if that means that I’m not in a calm room in my house. Whether it’s at the dog park, when I have two seconds in between patients, or if I’m laying in bed trying to go to sleep. Some things meditation helps me with is centering myself, reminding me what I’m grateful for, to practice my breathing, allows space for me to feel (guilt free), but it also massages my central nervous system. Not to mention the obvious of helping control my anxiety.
To anyone who doesn’t already meditate - I HIGHLY recommend it! Download an app, take a yoga class, watch a YouTube video - anything to help you get started! To those that already do - keep at it! You’re doing amazing, even if you feel like you should be setting aside more time for it.
