A little Saturday studio view from Pittsburgh…

I’ve wanted to put my heart into a painting of the Nittany Lion Shrine for a long time.

Like so many Penn Staters, I’ve walked past the Lion countless times over the years, and I wanted to see if I could capture not only the Shrine itself, but some of the feeling that comes with it.

I spent much of this summer working on the painting. I wanted the Lion to feel almost sculptural, so I built much of it with palette knives and layer upon layer of paint.

Still a few final touches to go, but it’s getting close.

Next week, it makes the trip from my Pittsburgh studio back to State College and the Douglas Albert Gallery.
