Trunk Shows To Go is hosting an event on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at the Thompson Run Athletic association Club, 4901 Ball Avenue, West Mifflin, PA 15122. It is to support a friend's daughter, Katie, who is fighting the batte of Cystic Fibrosis.
The family’s way of “fighting back” is to raise money for a cure.
I wanted to help by hosting a Craft & Vendor Show.
Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a life-threatening, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time. Most CF patients need a double lung transplant at some point in their lives. My friend’s daughter, Katie, has CF. She was diagnosed at 4 months old. This year, she turned 18. Only 50% of the kids with CF get the chance to make it to 18 years old. She’s one of the lucky ones.
Katie looks healthy, but she fights every day to stay healthy. Katie takes over 25 pills a day just to stay healthy. She puts on a vest that jiggles her for 30 minutes to clear the excess mucus from her lungs. At the same time, she does a nebulizer treatment. All this just to stay healthy. For the past 17 years they have a “Cruisin’ for Katie” walk team which has raised thousands of dollars for the CF Foundation. But it’s still not enough. We need CF to stand for “Cure Found” so Katie - and others like her - can live a long and productive life. By purchasing some jewelry and other items from the vendors, we will be donating a percentage to the “Cruisin’ for Katie” team, along with the proceeds from the raffle.
