The shop on Williams is coming to a close as I shift towards new projects and life moves.
These past 6 months I’ve been working at a nonprofit that provides an array of services but focuses primarily on addiction recovery and HIV services. It has been a completely new path for me that I’ve been so excited to learn and grow into.
Shop ownership is really something else. Big props to all the shop keepers out there. I knew that it would be tough going into it, but it’s become clear to me that this isn’t the right time for it in my life. Or maybe ever! Shop ownership began to feel like it was taking away time from the thing I really love doing, making. Stepping away from this has allowed me space to create things just because I want to, because I believe in the design and think it’s cool, rather than making something just because it would sell.
Anyways, I’m excited for this newness. I feel grounded and grateful. Despite the Williams shop closing, I’ll never stop making things I like, and will continue adding to my own site as well as bringing things to shop IRL
Though I’ve learned that shop ownership wasn’t for me, I am still in such awe of how much support I got through it, all of the talented creators I got to connect and collaborate with, and all of the people who stopped in that I got to meet. That will always be my favorite part of retail.
