the people's republic of portland

the people's republic of portland Celebrating Portland pride and beyond, one t-shirt at a time. Wear it proud! Last year we donated a portion of our proceeds to Community Rights PDX.

Through the mediums of art, digital and social media and a hip line of clothing we recruit, promote, and celebrate the unique people and businesses in Portland that share our vision in spreading the message of social and environmental responsibility. Every year we give a portion of our proceeds to a local or national non-profit that is doing good things for our people and our planet. They are a lo

cal non-profit with a mission to reclaim from corporations the Constitutional rights of people by exercising the right of local self-government to protect the health, welfare, and dignity of citizens, the commons, and future generations. Visit http://communityrightspdx.org/ to learn more. We have yet to determine which organization we will be donating to this year. The people’s republic isn’t limited to Portland. There are many like-minded communities with similar values. PROP has expanded into cities such as Brooklyn, San Francisco, Boulder, Louisville and other cities across the United States. Each community has unique elements that we can all learn from and build upon. PROP seeks to unite these communities and work together to build a better tomorrow. It is our goal to support and purchase from local businesses and suppliers whenever possible and to make sure that the products that are purchased have been manufactured responsibly, come from renewable resources, and have a low impact on the environment. We source only American Made or 100% organic cotton. We hope to soon be able to follow the up-cycled model and source from local company Looptworks. Add your voice to the republic! Help start new platforms for social exchange, let’s celebrate your city, your people, and unite to create a progressive model for real change. Make a fashion statement, be the changed you want to see and join the movement!

We’ve been busy with other artistic endeavors these last few years but we still have lots of tshirts and every once in a while a new fan finds us, whether through word of mouth or online. Chris reached out wondering if he could get a Peeps Repubs of Whatevs tee after seeing mutual friends of ours sporting theirs. Lucky for Chris he got the last two that I had.
I’m not about to get back into the T-shirt biz but I would make another run if there was enough interest.

Bueller?
Bueller?
Anyone?

Also, yay to new friends!!

‼️VOLUNTEER CALL‼️The People’s Housing Project and members of the public will be deploying three emergency shelters to the Parks blocks in Downtown, at the intersection of NW Davis and NW Park Blocks on Sunday, April 3rd, 2022.

Shelter deployment will begin promptly at 9am; sweep defense may begin from the moment we arrive and will continue until the hogs go home. Mutual aid organizations are welcome to come to distribute supplies to our houseless neighbors.

We will need folks on the ground all day to help with setting up shelters, providing food, water, and supplies; supporting our unhoused neighbors, keeping an eye out for interference, and music is always welcome! Come when you can for as long as you can starting at 9am.

Join a coalition of PDX community groups organizing for housing and houseless rights. This event will be a protest, supply distribution and an opportunity to network and build coalitions.

We, the people, are facing the brunt of housing and houseless crises, while the rich politicians and capitalists watch us suffer.

Our city and state governments continue to fail us.

Communities of the Global Majority and the working class are disregarded, and our best interests are ignored in policy making.

We need immediate and trauma-informed investment to address the houselessness and housing crises. Raise your voice with us, as we take to the streets in outrage at the city's gross shortcomings.

Hear from those directly affected and learn about what we can do as a community. We will have meals, zines, and speakers. There will be supplies available to distribute to folks in need, whether that's you or your neighbors.

Our Demands:

Stop the Sweeps:
Immediate end to inhumane and abusive sweeps of houseless camps. Redirection of funds to social work and public housing.

Houseless-run Transitional Villages:
Safe camping sites for houseless folks, that are democratically run by them as they transition out of houselessness. The city is correct to want safe rest sites, but we are not willing to sacrifice people's autonomy and freedom in order for them to receive basic human dignity and shelter.

Housing for All:
Housing is a human right. We must invest in public housing and take a housing-first approach when it comes to our houseless neighbors. We must also oppose evictions and struggle for tenants' rights, including the right to representation at eviction court.

We will meet at Terry Schrunk Plaza at 1PM.
