Sometimes when designing you need to phone a friend. Sometimes it’s Paul Rudolph (yes still, thanks bud;), sometimes it’s Chelsea, but it’s always important. Gathered or not? Add the contrast sleeve or leave it? Zipper, no zipper, or just ditch? There are times when my gut tells me exactly what to do, and other times when I need a trusted opinion. Happy 4th y’all! It’s kind of a big one 😳 ! Apologies in advance for not keeping it all about BBQs and fireworks but… As I was riding my bike to the shop this morning (this is Erica btw), I was thinking about where this country has come from and where it’s heading. I have to say that I am not at all happy with where we are right at this particular time (not at all at all). However, I am incredibly impressed by how much the founding fathers got right (with a lot of help from their wives, at least some of them!). It’s pretty amazing that what they set up has stood the test of time (although also pretty scary how it’s being tested and bent). There is also a good handful of things that they didn’t get right and it breaks my heart to know that after 250 years we are still getting many of those things wrong. It’s so hard to see so much injustice playing out every day, from a national standpoint to the streets of our own beloved city. So I’ve been asking myself, am I doing enough to try to help bend the arc of history towards justice? I keep wanting to do something big and meaningful and get so inspired by some of the brave acts by some of those who came before me (shout out to you, Rosa Parks). I still don’t know what that is going to be for me, but in the meantime I’m going to keep trying to support my community and be grateful that I live in this beautiful city that is full of people with big hearts.
