Spring is around the corner, and while antibody titers are ideal for most core vaccines, rabies vaccination is required by law. For adult dogs, choosing the 3-year rabies vaccine is a smart option and research suggests spirulina can help support the immune response.

A peer-reviewed study found dogs fed a small amount of spirulina had a faster, stronger antibody response after a rabies shot, without immune overstimulation, inflammation stayed low and normal. These dogs also had higher stool IgA, the gut’s first line of immune defense, which helps block toxins, balance gut bacteria, and support long-term gut health.

Spirulina doesn’t overstimulate immunity; it supports immune communication, gut barrier health, beneficial microbes, and oxidative balance, think immune training, not immune pushing.

Safety note: Spirulina does not naturally produce BMAA. Risk only comes from poor sourcing (wild harvesting, uncontrolled ponds, lack of testing). Well-sourced, GMP-produced, batch-tested spirulina has very low risk, which is especially important for dogs.

Dosage: start with 1/4 tsp🥄 per 20lbs of body weight.

Researchers analyzed 65 commercial dog and cat foods (dry and wet) for hidden contaminants like mycotoxins, pesticides, drug residues, and hormone-like plant compounds. Contamination was common: 77% of all foods contained mycotoxins, with dry foods far more affected. Ninety-five percent of dry foods tested positive for mycotoxins and 72% contained pesticide residues, most commonly aflatoxin B1, a known liver toxin and carcinogen.‼️⚠️

Many foods contained multiple contaminants at once. Dry foods carried higher risk due to greater use of grains and plant ingredients, which are more prone to mold and pesticide exposure, while wet foods were generally cleaner. Although levels weren’t quantified, the findings raise concern about chronic, low-level exposure, especially since pets eat the same food daily, highlighting the need for better sourcing, storage, and routine multi-contaminant testing, particularly for kibble.

Dogs and cats now live in a chemical environment their biology was never designed for, facing daily exposure from food, air, water, household products, pesticides, plastics, pharmaceuticals, and ultra-processed diets.

If you want a science-backed detox support option, Liver Lift™ is a daily, multi-pathway formula designed for pets living in today’s chemical world. It supports liver detox and bile flow, kidney filtration, lymphatic movement, gut binding, antioxidant regeneration, and nervous system regulation.

A new peer-reviewed study shows that certain flea and tick products—especially dips, sprays, and collars containing organophosphates, carbamates, or pyrethrins, are linked to a higher risk of bladder cancer (urothelial carcinoma) in dogs. Many of these products also contain “synergists” like piperonyl butoxide and up to 96% so-called “inert” ingredients, which can include petroleum solvents and chemical carriers. These chemicals may be absorbed through the skin, enter the bloodstream, and concentrate in the urine, repeatedly exposing the bladder lining and potentially causing inflammation and DNA damage, especially in genetically predisposed breeds.

Diet can help protect the bladder: dogs that eat vegetables several times a week, particularly leafy greens and yellow–orange veggies, show lower cancer risk, especially in high-risk breeds like Scottish Terriers. Certain supplements may also help: NAC and glutathione neutralize harmful chemicals in the urine; milk thistle and TUDCA support liver detox, and broccoli sprouts boost detox enzymes.

That’s why Dr. Becker created Liver Lift™, a science-backed, multi-pathway daily detox formula designed to support pets living in today’s chemical-filled world. 🌿

Dogs with food sensitivities or allergy-type reactions often have a disrupted gut microbiome, which can trigger immune responses to harmless proteins.

Probiotics can help improve skin, digestive, and ear issues by restoring gut balance, strengthening the intestinal barrier, boosting protective IgA, and supporting healthier immune tolerance. Multi-strain formulas generally appear to outperform single strains for dogs with skin problems, according to a new peer reviewed study published in Veterinary Sciences.

Strains with supportive evidence for allergy support include L. rhamnosus, L. plantarum, L. reuteri, B. animalis, and Saccharomyces boulardii.

That’s why when developed PRIMITIVE PROBIOTICS™, she included this evidence supported blend as part of a science driven approach to rebuilding and maintaining your dog’s microbiome using strains inspired by wild canids, healthy domestic dogs, and living soil.

Knowing how to recognize the signs of aggression and stop dogs from fighting, or prevent a fight from breaking out is a key sill for dog owners.

Your dog’s ancestors consumed the pancreas and other digestive organs of their prey, which provided essential digestive enzymes. Many dogs today struggle with digestion and nutrient absorption. Loose stools, gas, vomiting or pooping undigested food, and insatiable hunger are often early signs of digestive issues.

My latest free article about enzyme deficiency is ready to read; I explain the critical difference between full pancreatic enzyme failure and enzyme insufficiency, why so many dogs struggle long before the problem is identified (and how modern life, diet, stress, medications, and genetics all play a role). Learn why supporting digestion early can dramatically change your dog’s long-term health and quality of life. Link to the article is in the comments ⬇️ 🐾

New peer-reviewed, randomized, placebo-controlled research shows that dogs with aggression, social anxiety, or separation anxiety given the probiotic Lactiplantibacillus plantarum LP815 experienced significant behavioral improvements in just 4 weeks. Owners reported their dogs settled faster when left alone, slept and woke more consistently, maintained steadier daily activity, and were slightly less active overall, but in a calm, alert way rather than appearing sedated.

Why LP815 is different? This next-generation probiotic naturally produces GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), a neurotransmitter that helps calm the nervous system by regulating nerve activity. Unlike traditional calming supplements, LP815 works through the gut–brain axis to support more lasting, natural calming effects.

LP815 clinical results in dogs (after 4 weeks):
• Reduced fear- and noise-related aggression
• More restful, consistent sleep
• Improved mood and reduced reactivity
• Better energy and emotional balance
• Faster settling after owner departure

That’s why when developed her one-of-a-kind canine probiotic, she included Lactiplantibacillus plantarum LP815™ in PRIMITIVE PROBIOTICS™ : a science-driven approach to rebuilding and maintaining your dog’s microbiome using strains inspired by wild canids, healthy domestic dogs, and living soil.
