The Industrial Sewing & Digital Design vocational program for high school students at Mercer County Technical Education Center IS A GO! I am thrilled to report that we got the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation grant to adapt the awesome ISAIC industrial sewing curriculum to our 540 hour vocational program adding design software and local skills development. This will be the first vocational program of its kind in the US right here in Mercer County, WV 🎉🥳🎉🎉 Go, fight, win. Cover photo by Eric Proffit.

Finished the Oaxaca blouse just in time for trip back to San Sebastián Rio Hondo where this magical fabric was woven and naturally dyed in Oaxaca Mexico. It was a little love affair to work with. Sharing a few photos of the process and the final design (including my daily tea and cookie break with oatmeal, peanut butter, chocolate chip cookie to fortify!) It was a culmination of years of dreaming about software that customizes products with exquisite textiles made with love and care for people and the environment. More to come. Bittersweet final day training center learning the industrial sewing training curriculum for our Industrial Sewing and Digital Design training program at our local vocational school in Mercer County, West Virginia. Yes I’m as happy as I look in this photo. Swipe through the photos for a tour of the facility. Huge thank you to , to our instructor and to my super knowledgeable classmate Ms. Tommy Jones for making this week so special. My head is exploding with excitement about things that I got to learn this week that I’ve wanted to know for years. Next up: bring it back to our community and add some software training. Happy Dia de los Mu***os. In the studio today, honoring the women in my family who loved to create, but never had the privilege of a dedicated space to work. They are here with me creating today. I feel their presence through the love that surrounds me as I work. I honor them with my love and work.

I feel pretty blessed these days to be harvesting so much work that I’ve invested 10 yrs in. There were so many days when I wanted to quit but my heart wouldn’t let me. Just as I was finally able to digitally draft and quickly cut out new designs w my handy projector setup - a little critter was also born - my Box Turtle Pin Cushion. The turtle has been my spirit animal for this work - slow and steady wins the race. Full post - The Harvest- live on Substack. Link in profile. Yesterday, after months of trial and error I projected my first pattern- my sister’s custom birthday blouse. Beyond grateful to partner - for rescuing my projector effort and coming up with this super pro rig for it. Words can’t express what an amazing gift this was for my bday 🥳 My body is alive w excitement for how many more designs I can produce with this much more efficient system. Thank you .podcast for your in depth podcast on projector sewing which restored my sanity on how challenging the setup has been for projector sewing.

After another wild and crazy work week, riding the roller coasters of life, it feels so good to listen to drums in my studio and cut out my latest custom fit blouse - letting all the thoughts settle down around me. It’s a lovely meditation laying out the patterns on my window pane linen. Hope everyone’s finding a good way to unwind after the big full moon this week.

Such a privilege to travel last week to the West Edge in Huntington, WV to gather and learn from 16 small towns in WV who are tackling urgent community needs like emergency preparedness, job creation, access to healthy food with the same gusto that we are bringing to our work to revitalize the textile industry. Such a breath of fresh air to band together and ground ourselves in our small town realities with the political firestorms raging on the national stage. When I got home these giant dandelions were waiting for me urging my big dreams on - y’all can see how big they are in comparison to my giant man hands!
