CURATE your CLOSET

The PERFECT BUTTON DOWN:
Grab one from your dads closet or the local thrift store.

COLLAR: I prefer a non button down collar which is more versatile. Pop that Collar! And, Please, No stays

DARTS: NO!

BUTTONS: The same color as the shirt or interesting (novelty, brass, sliver)

PLACKET: To conceal the buttons or not? The choice is yours.

CUFFS: at least 2 buttons on the cuff are preferred or French cuffs which you can leave open or cuff with some interesting cufflinks or a family heirloom.

A BREAST POCKET: Yes, No or one shirt of each. A pocket makes the look more casual.

FABRIC: Thin enough to hang well but not sheer

Anatomy of a Perfect T-shirt

NECKLINE: The crew neck should be a little loose, hitting at or below the clavicle. If it's a V-neck--4 inches below your clavicle is a good length (doesn't show too much skin and is perfect for showcasing necklaces)

FIT: Not too lose and not skin tight

FABRIC: A good weight-not too thick or thin. Japanese cotton is know for the weigh it hangs classically-like a well worn man's undershirt (and who doesn't love a good worn-in t-shirt?)

COLOR: White, of course. But you can use other neutrals-black, heathered grey and navy

SLEEEVES: Should extend 3-4 inches from the shoulder and should not bag too much. If you prefer longer you can always roll the sleeve for a good look.

LENGTH: At least 2 inches below your hipbone to allow for the classic front tuck.

10 FASHION RULES to LIVE BY~

10) Don't worry about dressing your age, within reason of course,
9) Don't Fantasy Shop: When you lose 10 pounds, for a fancy party, when you run a marathon...
8) Don't follow every fashion trend--then you're just like everyone else
7) If it no longer works for you doesn't fit or is hopelessly worn then Poshmark it, donate it or throw it out. Just because you paid good money for it or your Aunt Martha gave it to you doesn't mean you have to keep it in your closet. Or have it repurposed into an accessory or as part of an entirely new garment.
6) If you LOVE it, love how you look in it, or how it makes you feel when you wear it by all means WEAR IT!
5) It's OK to wear the same "outfit" everyday. Think of it as your signature style.
4) Just because it is on sale doesn't man you should buy it
3) Think of some pieces of clothing as investments and splurge accordingly
2) Don't settle for just OK--if you do you'll end up with a closet full of "Just OK's" instead of fashionably fabulous!
1) Be Yourself: When you dress for your lifestyle and you are comfortable in your clothes it shows!
