PSA to please trust your mill! Not all sheep are made for yarn. We try our very best but different mills have different equipment that are capable of producing very different things. This fleece came in very dirty with lots of VM and very inconsistent in length and quality, but has sentimental value. It was small so we muscled through. The downfall is, you pay on incoming weight. After excessive skirting, the number of times it has broken at the spinner, resulting in trash on the floor, and the man hours to babysit every step, the resulting yarn will yield only about 25-35-% of when it came in. Please please please trust your mill when we say that yarn is not the best intention for a fleece or if we suggest adding wool to certain blends. We really do mean well and are trying to save you money with a viable and valuable end product.
Any yes, we know another mill did it for you before. They likely had different equipment than we do! I highly recommend “Vanishing Fleece” by Clara Parkes. This book explains how the same fiber can come out very very different when sent to different mills. We promise we won’t be offended if you go back to the mill who did it for you before!
