Today is Indigenous Peoples’ Day and before the day is over I wanted to share an awesome screen print poster, Calavera Crystal Ball by Rupert García from 1992 in a series of silkscreen prints. I came across this piece while looking up images of Columbus and ended up finding so many awesome prints and designs expressed through large print series.
I also wanted to share a section from Running Strong, on the importance of this day.
“Indigenous Peoples’ Day is an observance that honors the histories, cultures, resilience, and continued presence of Indigenous peoples. Rather than focusing only on the past, it recognizes Native communities as living cultures that continue to shape and strengthen society today.
The meaning goes beyond a single holiday. It encourages a more accurate understanding of Native American history, including both the harms caused by European colonization and the ongoing contributions of Indigenous communities.
Part of why we celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day is because Native history is often overlooked or inaccurately taught. Educational efforts such as the Smithsonian’s Native Knowledge 360° initiative help address these gaps by providing more complete and accurate resources about Indigenous histories and perspectives.
Today, there are 574 federally recognized tribes in the United States, along with many additional tribes and Native communities that are not federally recognized but continue to preserve their cultures and traditions. The day is currently observed by 17 states and Washington, D.C., with more communities recognizing it each year.”

A limited-edition series of de- and reconstruction, featuring vintage patches intertwined with in-house sewing.
We sourced a small collection of felt-backed, vintage duck embroidered patches and tucked them away, waiting for inspiration and the perfect project to feature them in.
And then we found one.
Inspired by our favorite 60s lacquered wood wall hangings, our in-house stitcher created a stencil modeled after the classic wood silhouette.
We upcycled vintage and secondhand brown corduroy pants, die-cutting the fabric to mimic grain-like qualities and tones of over-shellacked vintage wood decor. Using a method of free-motion embroidery, our stitcher finished the edges of each patch, using alternating thread colors to highlight the nostalgic border of the faux-wood plaque.
