Candace French Design Candace French Design is a workshop space specializing in fashion design classes for youth, teens and adults located on the Eastside of Providence, R.I.

The workshop is a place for aspiring designers; to create fashion, to explore style, to discover fundamentals of garment design, to invent patterns as a foundation for designs, to learn specific sewing skills and investigate the process of design from imagination to actualized garments to wear. Candace French teaches fashion, pattern making and construction for RISD/CE's Young Artist Program, The

Providence Public and Private School Systems as well as for The Candace French Design workshop. She is a clothing designer who created the first display of spandex fashion featured in Fiorucci in 1979. She designed stage clothing at the punk shops Revenge and Trash and Vaudeville in NYC for bands such as Blondie, The Cars, and New York Dolls. Her collections include the first line of kid's bike wear, wedding gowns, leather motorcycle suits, women's couture and cloth furnishings for the UK interiors fabric company Anna French. Her recent work has included high performance wear for Resolute Racing, collaboration with Chezpron; a specialized chefs apron for Chez-Pascal and design prototype garment development for the industry. She has created costumes for the stage, having completed Alice in Wonderland, Wind in the Willows, The Emperor's New Clothes, Snow White and Antigone.

Our Story

The workshop is a place for aspiring designers; to create fashion, explore style and discover fundamentals of garment design. We invent patterns, learn sewing skills and investigate the process of design from imagination to actualized garments. Candace French teaches fashion, pattern making and construction for RISD/CE's Young Artist Program, the Providence public and private schools as well as for the Candace French Design workshop.

She is a clothing designer who created the first display of spandex fashion featured in Fiorucci, NYC. She designed for the punk rock shops; Revenge, Trash and Vaudeville in NYC and for bands Blondie, The Cars, and New York Dolls.

Her recent work has been high performance rowing gear for Resolute Racing, The Chezpron for Chez-Pascal and the cape for Cleverhood.

Her past collections include Freewheeelers; the first line of kid's bike wear, custom wedding gowns, leather racing suits, bespoke clothing and soft furnishings for Anna French Fabrics.
