Saturday Night Slam Series

Saturday Night Slam Series The Saturday Night Slam Series is all about giving people space to share their stories. We host a monthly poetry slam at the Wall on BYU's campus.

The Saturday Night Slam Series in conjunction with the BYU English Society is proud to present this year's series at our new location The Wall. You, your roommates, your significant other, his or her little sister, that one guy with a mustache from your Tuesday 10 a.m. class and everyone else on the planet are invited to compete in this epic poetry slam for fame, glory, and phone numbers. All are

invited to come prepared with a three-minute poem to present to a panel of distinguished and randomly selected judges and a crowd of adoring fans. This is the event that your children's children will be asking you about for years to come. Don't know what a poetry slam is? That's fine, come anyway! But just to appease your curiosity, slams poets read or recite original work in less than 3 minutes. It's that simple! Write about whatever you want! Entry fee is one Haiku. A few people will be randomly selected to present during our intermission. Email [email protected] to sign up for your spot to compete or if you have any questions. Here are some links to some of our favorite poems as a starting point

WELCOME BACK SLAMMERS!

We know that this isn't the back to school that you're used to. But the world still deserves to be blessed by your poetry.

While it may not be as electrifying as performing live, we want you to consider submitting your poetry (and non-fiction, and fiction) to Inscape, BYU's literary magazine. Anyone can submit (not just BYU students).

Here's the link: https://inscape.byu.edu/

⚡ATTENTION: our February Slam is THIS week! Saturday February 8th, 7:00pm - 8:30pm!⠀⠀
⚡Here are the amazing Poets who won our January slam! ⠀ ⠀
⚡Reasons why you should be at the slam on Saturday: ⠀
1. It’s free. Are you looking for a different, exciting, and FREE date idea to ask out that person in your 9am lecture? Well here it is, no excuses this time bucko.⠀⠀
2. There’s food. We are grateful to be able to perform at The Wall which offers a variety of different of food options. You come to the slam to feed your soul but what if you also want to fill your stomach? We got you. Plus the sweet potato fries are to die for. ⠀⠀
3.It’s amazing; There is NO other place in Utah county where people are so open, vulnerable and honest about their lives. The slam gives you an opportunity to do something you’ve never done before. Come alone, with a date, with a friend, with your divorced uncle who needs something to do on Saturday nights. We have a strict “all love” policy, which means we don’t care who you are or what you’ve done, we have all love for you. We welcome all to come and become part of our Slam Family. ⠀
⚡If you are wanting to perform please email us at [email protected]. Or message us on here! ⠀ ⠀
⚡If you don’t want to perform you should realize that you only have this life, and then email us!!⠀⠀
⚡We will see you on Saturday! @ Provo, Utah

Our Story

In the beginning, there was no slam poetry at BYU, and we were like, “Well, this sucks.”
