💕 A LITTLE HEART-TO-HEART FROM A SMALL BUSINESS OWNER 💕
I want to share something that’s been on my heart lately. ❤️
When someone decides to go into business for themselves, there’s so much more to it than just opening the doors and selling pretty things.
There’s the website, the inventory, the rent, the utilities, liability insurance, insurance on everything inside the building, taxes, licenses, regulations, upkeep, and the responsibility of making sure everything is clean, presentable, and welcoming when you walk through those doors.
And that’s just scratching the surface!
There are so many hardworking mom-and-pop businesses out there doing everything they can to keep their dreams alive. And let me tell you, small business ownership is NOT for the faint of heart! Some days are wonderful, and some days you wonder how you’re going to make it all work.
Recently, our building was purchased, and our rent was increased. Along with that came additional expenses. And while we continue to do everything we’re supposed to do, follow the rules, pay our bills, and work hard to keep things going, the reality is that it’s getting harder and harder for small businesses to survive.
But I want to tell you something about WHY I chose to have a storefront. 💗
I could have stayed online. I could have sold everything from behind a computer screen. But that’s not who I am.
I LOVE PEOPLE.
I love seeing your faces walk through my doors. I love visiting with you. I love hearing about your children, your grandchildren, your vacations, your accomplishments, and even your struggles.
I love when you come in just to say hello.
I love when we laugh until our sides hurt. I love when we share stories, when we shed tears, when we hug each other, and when we stop right there and pray for one another.
Because the truth is, we ALL have a story.
We all have struggles. We all have happy moments and heartbreaking moments. We all have days when we need someone to listen, someone to encourage us, or someone to simply remind us that we’re not alone.
And THAT is what I wanted Only Prettier Boutique to be.
Not just a place to buy clothes, jewelry, or pretty little things.
I wanted it to be a place where you walk in as a customer and leave feeling like a friend. 💕
I chose this life. I chose the storefront, the responsibility, the long hours, and the sacrifices. And I wouldn’t trade the friendships I’ve made along the way.
But I also want to be transparent.
We need you.
Not just Only Prettier Boutique, but ALL your local small businesses.
We need our communities to stand behind us. We need you to remember us when you’re shopping, buying gifts, or looking for something special.
We need those shares, those recommendations, those kind words, and yes, those purchases.
Because every single purchase matters. Every time you tell someone about us, it matters. Every time you choose to walk through our doors instead of clicking that checkout button somewhere else, it matters.
We’re not big corporations with unlimited resources. We’re real people, with real families, real bills, real struggles, and real dreams.
And we’re doing our very best to make those dreams work.
I want to continue bringing you all the pretty little things, hosting our fun events, laughing with you during our live shows, and making memories right here in our little community.
But we can’t do it without you.
I want to be there for my people, and I’m asking my people to be there for me, too. ❤️
I’m not sharing this for sympathy. I’m sharing it because sometimes I think people don’t realize just how much goes into keeping those doors open.
So the next time you shop, I hope you’ll think about that little storefront down the road. The one where someone knows your name, asks about your family, remembers your stories, and genuinely cares about YOU.
Because to me, you’re so much more than a sale.
You’re the reason I wanted to do this in the first place.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to every single person who has supported us, prayed for us, shopped with us, shared our posts, or simply walked through our doors to visit.
You are what makes all the sacrifices worth it. 💗
With love,
Kristy 💕
