We SO appreciate all of you that messaged the page (which goes to the all the owners and our social media team volunteers without the risk of being lost in a "message request' folder and not seen) and for those who know us and reached out personally 1:1. We've seen so many of you take up for KX on the public social media posts going around that were more than any of us wanted to have on our first defrosted weekend in a while here!
Let's rewind from the beginning: Last sale's winter storm created extremely difficult circumstances for everyone, and we want to address the concerns we’ve heard with complete transparency. Because of the required building turnover at the NC State Fairgrounds for the Southern Farm Show setup to begin, we were required to vacate the facility by the Fairgrounds’ contracted deadline (in previous sales years ago with major weather, there was not an event loading in that allowed more flexibility to extend time). The winter storm caused us to end the event earlier than planned and were unfortunately unable to complete our normal process of sorting unsold items by consignor number for convenient pickup. To help sellers ahead of the storm, we opened early pickup on Friday and Saturday and allowed access at any time those days. Items remained on the sales floor by category, which we understand made pickup more time-consuming.
Any items left in the building after the required move-out are donated — as always — exclusively to our long-standing charity partner, the Raleigh Dream Center. Kids Exchange does not sell donated items, does not profit from leftover inventory, and has never authorized anyone to sell donations online. Raleigh Dream Center is very well established and connected in Raleigh and partners with many other organizations with donations and causes. A few days ago we learned that a third-party individual, connected to a partner organization of the Raleigh Dream Center, listed some donated clothing for sale online without authorization. As soon as we were made aware, we contacted the individual and asked for the listings to be removed immediately. Raleigh Dream Center was fully unaware of this online sale of items as well when we spoke to them and has since reinforced their policies with all partner groups to ensure this does not happen again. After research and investigation, these clothes were leftover from the July sale and had been a part of many community giveaways prior to these unauthorized sale postings.
We are SO sorry that many of you were contacted by a person who claimed a storage unit would be open for return of items. We sent a volunteer to that facility at the designated time promised and no one was present as stated, and the storage facility staff on site were unaware of any of the involved names or any giveaway events.
Our social media team did, as stated in these posts, deny the first post submitted to this group as they are directed to in line with the reason of our rule of "Contact the Sale Directly" (in the Tagging Group for Sellers and Taggers KX Consignment Sale with lots of specific and clear guidlines) just as we do with anything that personally names concerns that are not helpful to the whole, while we were able to investigate what was actually happening. The person who has been posting and messaging did not ever directly contact us until after the postings. Two others did, and they told us they understood when they got the full explanation. We had spoken to the onsite storage sales person and RDC and thought things were resolved until so many of you began getting messages and making us aware of more posts this morning.
We want to be very clear:
Kids Exchange has never kept, sold, or profited from leftover consignor property.
We want you to get your colored tag items back and we want the donations to go to worthy causes.
Our sellers are the heart of this event. Without you, Kids Exchange would not exist.
Every decision we make is intended to serve our families, our consignors, and our community.
