Rare 1930s risqué penny-arcade advertising window shade. This piece was an advertisement for a Mutoscope “girly film” named Beautiful Dreamer, fetching a lady wearing red high heels and a garter belt. The shade is made of a heavy rice paper like material.

Dimensions: 69” x 36”

A Mutoscope is an early coin-operated motion picture device. Patented in 1894 by Herman Casler, it acts like a large mechanical flipbook or a giant, automated Rolodex. Instead of film strip, the machine uses hundreds of sequential photographic cards mounted to a rotating drum. When a user turns a hand crank, the drum spins and rapidly flips the cards past a lens, creating the illusion of moving pictures.
