1. The Perfect T-shirt: Something to throw on with my favorite cut off shorts or jeans, or tied and paired with a simple skit. My next attempt will be a mashup of the and the . 
2. Midrise Pants: came to my rescue with the release of their ... straight leg, the mid-rise of my dreams, in a stretch cotton twill in a neutral drab green.
3. Linen Button Up Shirt: Tucked in to jeans, tied at the waist, a light layer for the summer... it's a wardrobe workhorse and completely hackable! comes to my aid once again with the . My version will feature a standard collar and long sleeves in a beautiful lightweight linen.
4. Joggers: I'm a homebody, who doesn't sit down, so I need some comfy bottoms that will move with me. The perfect pair of joggers (in a beefy fleece-lined sweatshirt fabric) paired with the classic t-shirt is a must. were a no brainer!
5. Slip Dress: Made on the bias in silk, or on grain in a viscose linen is the perfect fit!
6. Maxi & Midi Linen skirt: I'm know I'm cheating a bit here, but I was drooling over the and their newest and I couldn't choose one. And why should I?!  I want to make both in a natural-colored viscose linen to pair effortlessly with all the basic tops I've planned.
7. Mini Summer Dress: Now for some fun! I've chosen in a beautiful soft tencel twill.
8. Off the Shoulder Top: Sexy and versatile, the from checks all the boxes.
9. Long sleeved dressy top: A definite hole in my wardrobe, noticed especially during the holidays. The by is a few clicks above the classic button up with a exaggerated collar and dramatic sleeves. I picture it in a rayon or silk... or maybe both!

I’ve never picked a word to lead the way for the upcoming year because, like most resolutions, mine are usually forgotten after the first couple weeks. But I’m hoping this new decade brings some new energy and consistency. My word is MORE. More love, more quality time spent with family and friends, more cooking, more time outside, more snuggles, more dedication, more focus, more rest...

I’m constantly combating the feelings of being less than... less than beautiful because I want to be desired, less than successful because I want to be respected, less than worthy because I want to feel loved. Ironically enough, my Joseph always makes me feel desired, respected, and loved, but, somehow, it’s not enough to push past my own negative thinking.

I made myself believe that this is just how I am... flaws and insecurities despite all the greatness in my life. I try to hide it, but we all know it creeps out now and then. My negative self-talk didn’t go unnoticed and I caught Annie beginning her own self-criticism.

It. Broke. My. Heart.

She would beat herself up because she couldn’t remember songs from school, or new combinations from ballet class, and she would compare her reading skills to others in her class. How could my sweet little angel face feel like she was anything less than amazing?! I had enough!

So, I’m going back to therapy. Girl, it is loooooong overdue. And I started praising the heck out of my kids... seriously, I think it’s annoying them. But it’s better than the alternative.

There are days when I'm desperate for some alone time.... Who am I kidding? It's most days. Yesterday was a bad day. A whining, crying, nothing is good enough bad day. I tried active listening, redirection, even bribery! Nothing worked. Those two hell-raising kids were not going to give me a break... they were determined to break me. They did, I screamed, they cried. It was awful, and I felt like a monster. And when Joseph got home I hid in the bedroom with the door closed and locked.
I know I'm not alone. I know you're reading this thinking, "Oh girl, I've been there."
Can you promise me something? When it happens to you please don't beat yourself up. Don't go down the road of self-hatred doubting every parenting decision you've ever made. Instead, send me a message, so I can tell you what an awesome job you're doing.

Hi, I’m Jess. I live my life somewhere between scrubs and activewear. I’m not particularly active, unless you consider juggling two kids, working as a NICU nurse, building a business, and spreading the joy of unfiltered motherhood active. I’m married to my Joseph, the love of my life, and lion tamer to our two free spirits, Ann and Lila. We’re busy and blessed.

There are times when I don’t feel like I’m doing enough… when I don’t feel present even after spending the entire day with my kids. I’m horrible at imaginative play, I get tired of reading book after book after book, and my favorite time of day is usually after the kids go to sleep and I can sip my tea in silence. Even after all these hits to my mommy ego, Lila will turn to me, out of the blue, and whisper, “Mommy, I love you.” Not prompted, not forced, but very sincerely. It washes the insecurities away and I’m reminded that I’m doing exactly enough. My kids are so loving, and I had a hand in that.
Please please please give yourself a break! Tell that devil on your shoulder to shut up and take a seat! You are enough. You do enough. Your kids are happy and thriving because of you.
