Do you remember the swivel knife I mentioned a couple of posts ago? This is one of them! It is not my main one, but one I use for something known as decorative cuts in the leather world due to the smaller blade size. Not to mention it's an angled blade which gives me more control on smaller details. (Disclaimer: I forgot to take a picture of this step too before advancing to the next step, but remembered to grab a picture real quick before advancing even more. ( Does anyone know how to successfully herd cats? 🤪) Anywho, the pictured swivel knife is used to cut individual veins into each leaf on this belt. Yes, each small line is individually cut by hand. One of many steps that contributes to the roughly 12-15 hours that goes into every tooled belt I make.

Well, it was bound to happen with my over taxed brain, I forgot to take a picture of one of the steps to tooling this belt.😵‍💫 After the design is traced onto the leather, I use a swivel knife to cut the design into the leather.(Not pictured) That's where this current picture becomes relevant. You can see the design is cut into the leather and I'm starting to bevel it. The beveler is the little stainless steel tool in the picture and I use it to stamp down the leather along the cuts I have made. It is moved along in miniscule increments to bring the design out from the leather.

Back in the saddle again! And boy does it feel good!! This belt might look familiar because I have made one before. This one is a custom order for a different customer and I plan on posting pictures of the individual steps as I make this belt. Even though I have made it before, there will be small differences because everything is done by hand in my shop.

Proof of life post.🤪 Unfortunately real life has been so busy my shop time had to take up residence in the back seat. I'm still plugging along and trying to get things balanced out enough that I can work on creating more again.
