The flame front has passed, but the true test of a wildland crew's endurance is just getting started.

Mop-up isn't flashy, but it’s exactly how fires are won.

It means systematically extinguishing or removing burning material near control lines, felling unstable snags, and trenching logs to keep them from rolling down steep slopes.

This phase demands hours of digging through hot ash, feeling for heat with bare hands, and putting in the heavy physical labor required to make the perimeter 100% safe.

Respect to the crews staying on the line until the very last smoke is dead.
