🌿 My Ajwain Remedy for a Runny or Blocked Nose

When a cold leaves you with a runny or blocked nose, here is a simple remedy from my traditional kitchen remedies using ajwain (carom seeds).

🥛 To take with milk
Take a small amount of ajwain, roast it in a pot till it begins to change colour, then add warm milk to it. Simmer for 2 minutes. Drink it while warm.

🌬️ For inhalation
Lightly roast some ajwain and place it in a small clean cloth pouch. Bring the pouch near your nose and gently inhale the aroma. This can be especially comforting when the nose feels blocked or congested.

A simple ingredient, an old family practice, and a little bit of traditional wisdom from our kitchen. ❤️

This is a traditional home remedy and not a substitute for medical care. Avoid very hot steam or anything that could burn the nose/skin. Seek medical attention for significant or persistent breathing difficulty.

🌿 Hello friends, sharing a simple kadha from my kitchen for those times when you’ve eaten something that doesn’t agree with your stomach and you are feeling gassy, heavy, or uncomfortable.

Here's what you will need:

1 glass water

A handful of fresh mint leaves

5–6 tulsi (holy basil) leaves

A small piece of fresh ginger, grated

Black salt, to taste

Lemon juice, to taste

Method:

Bring 1 glass of water to a boil.

Add mint leaves, tulsi leaves and grated ginger.

Add black salt according to taste.

Simmer until the water reduces to about half.

Turn off the heat and add freshly squeezed lemon juice.

Strain and drink lukewarm.

🌱This Kadha has a refreshing combination of sour, salty and spicy flavors, with the aroma of mint. Traditionally, this warm drink has been enjoyed when feeling bloated or uncomfortable after eating.

🌿 My Healthy Multigrain Roti – A Recipe from My Kitchen🌿

I have always believed that good health begins with the food we eat every day. Roti is a part of almost every Indian household, so why not make it a little more nutritious?

Instead of using only wheat flour, I like to combine different wholesome flours. Each one brings its own nutritional benefits:

🌾 Jowar (Sorghum) – Naturally gluten-free and a good source of fiber, minerals and plant-based nutrients. It can help make meals more filling.

🌾 Bajra (Pearl Millet) – Rich in fiber, iron, magnesium and other minerals. It is a nourishing grain that has been a part of traditional Indian diets for generations.

🌱 Soybean flour – Adds valuable plant-based protein to the roti and also provides iron and other nutrients.

🌸 Ragi (Finger Millet) – A good source of calcium and fiber, making it a wonderful addition to a wholesome everyday diet.

I also like adding ajwain, cumin and sesame seeds for extra flavor and nutrition.

🫓 How I make it

Mix the different flours together with the spices and seeds. Add hot water gradually and mix until everything comes together into a soft dough.

Let the dough cool slightly, then knead it well until smooth. Divide it into small portions, roll out the rotis and cook them on a hot tawa until they are nicely cooked.

You can enjoy them with a little ghee, sabzi, dal, yogurt or simply with your favorite curry.

❤️ After so many years I still enjoy making these rotis and passing these little pieces of kitchen wisdom on to the next generation.

Try these multigrain rotis and let me know how you like them! 🌸

The Benefits of Barley (Jau) – A Simple, Nourishing Drink for Every Season 🌿

With the summer heat upon us, many people look for refreshing ways to stay hydrated. One traditional home remedy that has been enjoyed for generations is barley (jau) water. It's easy to make, free from preservatives, and can be a healthy addition to your diet.

🥤 Simple Barley Water Recipe
• Wash 2–3 tablespoons of barley grains.
• Pressure cook them with 2 glasses of water for about 5 minutes.
• Once cooled, blend lightly with a hand blender and add more water if needed.
• Season with a squeeze of lemon and a pinch of salt for a refreshing drink.

🥛 For a sweeter version:
Cook the barley with 1 glass of milk, add jaggery or sugar to taste, let it cool, and sprinkle a little crushed black pepper before serving.

🍲 In Cooler Weather:
Barley also makes a delicious, hearty soup. Simply cook crushed barley with vegetables like onion, carrot, peas, bottle gourd (dudhi), or cabbage. Add ginger, black pepper, coriander, and your favorite seasonings for a warm, comforting meal.

✨ Barley is a good source of fiber and may help support hydration, digestion, heart health, and weight management when included as part of a balanced diet.
