Last weekend we raced the J24 districts out on Lake Champlain- it was a nice weekend of sailing and stoked to have the MoLa logo on the Vermont Sailing Partner’s boat.

Very few one design sails are made right here in the USA, so it aligns with the mission to race on a boat where the sails are made right in Vermont!

Thanks to the race committee and competitors for the tight racing on the outer bay, and thanks to Lea Ann Clouser Smith for the photos!

Mother-Daughter Pinniped Crewnecks

Made from a lightweight PowerGrid, the Pinniped layers are a solid choice for a multi-seasonal layer. Wear it as a base or midlayer during the winter, or as something to throw on, on a cooler summer night.

The inverted necklines serve a few functions - comfort & functionality, as well as being a distinct feature that helps Mola stand out from every other brand that makes items with similar materials.

What’s for sale here? A way of life, a way of thinking, a way of consuming, a way of playing.

Being more conscious, even just a little, in any of these ways, takes less from the planet, from other humans, and the more contagious this stuff gets, the healthier and happier of a society we all live in.

These ways of thinking aren’t new, Buddhism (the middle way) and Thoreau (Walden) inspo. But, we are more connected now than ever before so the opportunity to spread the message is there.

Come discuss Maker Economics Generator tomorrow, Thursday, July 30 with us! If you’re a maker - consider joining or spreading the word! 🤘🙏

I sort of joke about product testing being an important part of my job, because it serves as a great excuse to go play on the lake or in the mountains…but it actually is super important!

Testing practicality is the first step, then comes making adjustments in fit, which is partially determined by the material used, & then comes durability over time.

The most honest & authentic way to market products is to be super connected to the evolution of each piece. This is a big part of what it means to be a purpose built brand with soul.

This particular hoodie passed the first trial, which did actually surprise me! This layer won bonus points after being worn wing foiling for a few hours…then forgotten about wet in the back of the car for a day. Seeing it this morning, it was completely dry, despite being left in a heap. AND it didn’t smell, which indicates to me that it dried super quickly.

Eager to get more wind and to continue on with durability testing, aka getting out on the water as often as possible 😆

According to the Secretary of State, Mola is officially 6 today!

Back in 2005, I was sewing belts and tote bags, embroidering stuff, selling products to classmates & just making fun little things by hand because I enjoyed it.

Ffwd a bunch of years, and Mola became a more serious passion project, centered around the sports (snowboard, kite/wing, sail, and MTB), and with a real ‘why’ to back up all business decisions.
When COVID hit, the systems behind how we make products for US consumers started to show their cracks. Supply chains broke down, corporate giants got stronger, and the value of small, local, independent brands really hit home.

That mindset had already been growing, rooted in boardsports culture because the best gear has always come from riders. Riding culture is anti-corporate by nature. Built with soul, instead of being driven entirely by profit margins. The most important inspo always comes from time on snow, dirt, & and water.

Today, Mola turns 6 because it’s when this brand was officially incorporated. But really, this thing’s been evolving since 2005. The mission just got a lot clearer through studying and paying attention to supply chains.

Mola will always be rider-owned, designed & sewn here. Riding boards & bikes has always been embedded in the mission and practiced regularly 😅🤘
Small-batch, purpose-built, and unapologetically independent.

Thanks for backing this dream the past 6 years! Excited for what’s to come & stoked to have been treated to a great morning of breeze with a big crew on the lake!

Built for the dirt, wind, and pow & made specifically for your purpose.

Because we test the gear in mountain biking, kiting, and the backcountry, we have learned what it takes to make technical layers that perform the best in those elements.

Since most Mola is made-to-order in our Richmond, VT workshop, we have the unique ability to work together to tailor your dream gear. If you need a specific pocket for gravel rides, an ultralight alpha customized for mountain runs, or custom sizing on your favorite hiking layer, we’ve got you covered.

For simple length adjustments, color swaps, or minor feature changes, send a DM or reach out via the web form at molahoods.com and we can get something in the works for you!

For more involved customizations, reach out to setup a time for a shop visit so we can measure, design, and pattern it together. Not everything is possible (or practical), but a lot is!
