Diane Keaton inspired me from an early age with her love of hats and fashionable style. She showed me that I could have fun, be weird and neurotic in my choice of what to wear. I had a very neurotic sense of fashion when I was a child all the way through high school, never quite figuring out what style fit me. One day, dressed with flowing cotton hippie dresses, the Next dressed in preppy outfits with those 80s sweaters and loafers, the next day With a blazer and a tie absolutely mimicking Annie Hall. I dressed like a boy, I dress like a girl, I tried to dress like a 80’s model. Until this day, I still think I dress for my mood. But the thing that grounds me always are the hats. The hats have been consistent throughout my life. Whether the hats I make or the hats I find in thrift stores or the hats I buy from others. And that influence definitely came from Diane Keaton. RIP DK. Gone too soon.

Well, this is a first. How is it that somebody tagged my work as counterfeit? In the business of making custom hats for clients there is no such thing as counterfeit when you’re making a hat. unless I use the designer label. And try to knock it off as it’s from that designer. But there are no copyrights or rules to making western hats.
Nobody in particular owns the right to a gaucho, or Bolero, western hat. And the hat in itself is unique enough to be mine alone. I make this hat all the time. The only thing that makes it custom is that I created the perfect size and color and trim for the client.
But some reporter flagged it as counterfeit? Is it possible because I said it was inspired by Lee Van Cleef’s hat in the western films?
It won’t even let me report that the reporter is incorrect because it says the page won’t load.

So here we are after witnessing other censorship in this country and I find myself censored to display a hat that I made for somebody. calling them counterfeit is ridiculous. It’s just as ridiculous as that one particular hat maker who tried to patent putting a matchstick in his hat. He did not come up with that idea. And all of us hat makers know it.
I will put the hat back up when I find the photo!
