🪶Marine & Deerfield Hats!!
Local milliner Suzanne Warfield trained in London with Chloë
Scrivener (who worked with The Queen’s former milliner, Philip
Somerville), trained in Hamburg, Germany with Ulla Machalett of
Rotkäppchen Designs, then returned to New York to work along
side Julia Knox of East Village Hats. She later trained with
renowned Richmond milliner Ignatius on her vintage straw braid
machine.
Every Marine & Deerfield hat is made entirely by hand — never in
a factory. Drawing on traditional millinery techniques, each hat is
shaped on vintage wooden blocks, crafted from thoughtfully
sourced materials, and individually finished by hand.
Braided straw hats are sewn from skeins of straw on a vintage
sewing machine. All materials — straw and felt — are sourced from
Germany, Italy, and the Czech Republic, including rare Florentine
straw no longer in production.
As all hats are handmade, subtle variations are embraced as part
of their beauty, character, and story.
