On Friday, Sep. 11, the Association of Fire Science Technicians hosted the annual memorial and stair climb to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks that took the lives of 343 firefighters, and the thousands of other victims from that day.
Members of the AFST escorted Eastern Kentucky University’s piece of steel from the Ashland Fire Protection and Safety Laboratory to the Whitlock Building with the assistance of Kirksville Volunteer Fire Department, Chief Bob Hendricks, Richmond and EKU PD. After the memorial, climbers proceeded to Commonwealth Hall to climb 110 flights of stairs to commemorate the firefighters that walked into the towers for the lives of others who could not make it back out.
