Like so many people, I’m incredibly sad about the passing of Dolly Parton. She was one of those rare people who seemed to make the world a little brighter simply by being herself. Funny, generous, unapologetically Dolly, and extraordinarily kind.

And on a personal note, “9 to 5” was my anthem for years. Every time I dreamed about leaving corporate America and taking the leap to build Pretty Apothecary, there was Dolly reminding me to pour myself a cup of ambition and go for it. It feels a little surreal now to be standing in the shop I dreamed about for all those years, holding this mug.

So this weekend, I’d like to honor Dolly in a small way. This Saturday 8/29 & Sunday 8/30, Pretty Apothecary will donate $5 from every “Pour Yourself a Cup of Ambition” mug sold and a percentage of our sales to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Rochester here in Rochester, helping put books into the hands of local children and carrying forward a little piece of the incredible generosity she showed throughout her life. 📚🤍

Thank you for the music, the laughs, the kindness, and for reminding generations of us to dream big.

Pour yourself a cup of ambition. Then go build the life you’ve been dreaming about, because you deserve it🦋

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out Saturday to celebrate the NOTA Business Association Summer Social! Seeing the shop and the Viciously Crafty - WNY Makers Market this full, meeting so many new faces, catching up with familiar ones, and feeling all that incredible energy throughout the neighborhood was truly something special.

I’m continually blown away by the way Rochester shows up for its artists, makers, small businesses, and community. Your support means more to me than I could ever fit into a caption, and I’m so grateful that Pretty Apothecary gets to be a little part of it all.

Thank you for shopping small, supporting local, and making this neighborhood such a wonderful place to call home. Yesterday was one for the books. I appreciate you, Rochester. More than you probably know.

These aren’t just beautiful prints, they’re little pieces of Rochester history 🎨

We’re so excited to share the incredible work of Kathy Outlaw, whose fashion illustrations once brought the pages of Rochester’s iconic department stores to life. Thanks to her daughter, these original production samples have been transformed into gorgeous keepsake prints, and we have a limited collection waiting for you at the shop.

If you love local history, vintage style, or discovering something truly special, you’re going to want to see these in person. You deserve it 🤍

Next Saturday, August 8th is one of my favorite events of the summer, the Neighborhood of the Arts Summer Social!

The whole neighborhood comes alive with local artists & makers, great food, and so many amazing small businesses to explore.

We’ll have the shop stocked with lots of new arrivals, and plenty of reasons to stop in while you’re out enjoying the day.
