THREADLINES | From Customer to Collaborator

This month’s Threadlines introduces you to someone who has become much more than a Mansawear customer.

Meet **Heather Steranka**—customer, friend, Mansawear advocate, and the talented maker behind our Toma bracelets and necklaces.

Our paths first crossed in 2023 when Heather invited me to be the keynote speaker for Lewis Tree Service’s annual Black and Women’s History Celebration. As we got to know one another, I discovered that Heather had a passion for glass and beadwork and created handmade accessories through her Etsy shop.

That discovery led to an idea.

For years, Mansawear’s Toma bracelets were made in Ghana and shipped to Rochester. Rather than increase the price because of rising transportation costs, I decided to bring the raw, unstrung Krobo beads home from Ghana and have Heather create the jewelry locally.

And what a beautiful collaboration it has become.

The journey of each bead is remarkable: **Ghana → Rochester → Heather’s hands → Mansawear → you.**

Krobo beads are made primarily from recycled glass bottles and are transformed through fire, earth, water, and generations of craftsmanship by the Krobo people of Eastern Ghana.

Heather gives those beads another life here in Rochester.

And she does even more than that. After becoming a Mansawear customer, Heather began introducing her family and friends in Ohio to the brand. She has become one of those wonderful people who doesn't simply wear Mansawear—she shares the story.

Heather, thank you for your creativity, craftsmanship, friendship, and belief in Mansawear.
