I wasn’t a direct participant in this past FEMME Art Fair but I managed to still make it in the show somehow. 😅 Thanks to Lea Craigie, our collaborative wearable art look “Basin Blooms” (modeled by ITGIRL💋) AND a depiction of yours truly Syreeta C | Fashion were represented. Both images were featured in Lea’s cyanotypes.

An honor.

And a prompt to unpack the role of flowers in my life in 2026. (As they’re not my usual inspiration.) That’s art at its most successful: a catalyst for dialogue, even when it’s internal. 💙

As we welcome September, I want to express my genuine gratitude for everyone who supported my Union Station ‘Basin Blooms’ window. The opportunity to see it in this particular activation is coming to an end shortly but I deeply appreciate anyone who visited, took a pic, or sent a positive vibe my way!

This ‘Designing Dreams’ display has technically been up for an entire year and the reception has been encouraging. I aim to continue to activate fashion in art spaces — clothing is an illuminator just as much as any other art form (if not more).

Speaking of, catch me next DC State Fair on Sunday, Sept 7th!
I’ll be on the education stage around 2pm and in the Craft Corner otherwise. Join me for a community activity!

Special thanks to Lea Craigie, Rita Hawk, UnionStationDC, Mary Elizabeth, Brandon Hill, Jason Bowers, and all the hands that helped in any literal way. 💕

The aim is always to have clients leave happier than when they came, especially for alterations. On some occasions, that takes more effort. This prom alteration was an example as it quickly shifted from tailoring to a significant rebuild.

You’ll have to swipe for the full list of services that ranged from cutting almost 7” off the hem to chopping off the bottom of the corset. (The topical changes are more obvious but none of it would be successful without better understructure.)

I know I’m not the only seamstress with a cautionary tale about ordering overseas. is a popular enough hashtag. And, to be honest, this one actually could have been worse! But I’m glad we were able to make it work.

I was scrolling through my phone looking for an old piece of media and came across this sweet memory that inspired a different post. There are a few layers:

A) The sentiment — because absolutely hell yes!
B) Angela Rae is one of the best ever. Period. Stylish, vivacious, and a wonderful spirit.
C) This was SO long ago and puts a lot in perspective for me. Almost ten years later and the SCF studio has grown from my parents’ basement to a studio… and bigger studio… and bigger studio. I’m so grateful.
D) And last but not least… the board itself represents so much. You see a dry erase board but I see empathy, creativity, and a huge vote of faith. Angela brought this board to her first appointment after my 2nd bout of sudden sensorineural hearing loss. She was one of the first clients I told and one of the reasons I kept going. I thank her eternally and you all should, too! “This is how we’ll communicate. And keep it to use for the rest of your clients.” It’s a moment I’ll never forget and probably deserves a longer format blog post. But until then…

Here’s a throwback of some pieces we created prior to her moving to the west coast in tandem with Roz. (Definitely missing a few — including a plaid bias cut skirt + blouse, if my memory serves me.) Both of these ladies mean more to me than they likely realize. So here’s a reminder! Love y’all! 🖤✨

Earlier this year, I worked on some of the most uniquely beautiful fabric of my entire career. It was hand-embroidered — not with jewels or beads — but with buttons. They were all sewn one by one on top of a burnout fabric. The contrast, texture, and gentle asymmetry made me scream a little when I saw it. One of my clients purchased it as a shawl in Egypt and wanted to add a series of hooks & snaps so she can convert it between a shawl and a poncho (that stays on).

She was sweet enough to explain that this textile technique comes from the Siwa Oasis located in the Western desert. The merchant for this particular piece is Louisa - Siwa Oasis. Just incredible work! I have no more words.

A little more commotion for the dress…
Because it’s old. 🙃

You all showed one of my designs a lot of love on the previous post so I wanted to share more details. It was created in one single late night flow session for my birthday in 2024. I dipped into my fabric stash for once (*sewists rejoice 🥳*) and focused on a deadstock ribbed woven from a French designer, if memory serves me correctly. I purchased both colorways from Promenade Fine Fabrics years ago when I couldn’t decide which palette was my favorite. Logically, that means buy both even when you don’t know what you’re making. 😅

Fast forward and I wanted something fun for my birthday. I love asymmetry and it would be early Spring in NYC. This fit the bill. And I had

There’s so much that goes into a photograph — especially when the subject prefers to be behind the scenes. When ease doesn’t come naturally, it’s all about the hands that hold the camera. They help you navigate through the poses, posture, and apprehension.

As a designer, I’m more comfortable creating the looks and providing support but if there’s one photographer who will get me in front of the lens, it’s Myron. I’ll be wildly annoying and give him the hardest time — then he’ll return the favor. It’s always an exchange between 2 fire signs that act like siblings but sync to make magic every time. 😂

So, so grateful that someone who began as collaborator in 2019 is now a friend.
Myron, I wish you the BEST birthday and so much success this upcoming season being a *paid* extraordinaire! ✨
Since I’m still sitting on pics I never posted, I decided to do a little retrospective and quickly realized I need to probably make a reel, too, because 20 slides is NOT enough (which says a lot for someone who hates having their photo taken).
And cheers to many more years of Aries-Leo sarcastic synergy!

I love seeing custom SCF garments being reworn! Time may pass but the clothes are built to last… and you may as well capitalize on quality investments. Don’t let society make it seem taboo… even I wear my own pieces over.
The audience will change but the sentiment remains because someone new will still ask “where did you get that?!” and you get to say, “it’s custom.” 😉

Linette originally had this dress made for her “Denim & Diamonds” themed 50th Birthday in 2022. Then it resurfaced 3 years later for a gala, perfectly folding into its kaleidoscope theme. 💙

Many don’t pause long enough to read captions anymore—
Or to smell the flowers—
Or feel the warmth of the sun on their skin.

And I’m guilty.

It’s August 15th and I can count the number of days off I’ve had this year on the same 2 hands that I owe so much. They’re producing something I’m proud of. Digging — planting — watering — pruning. Those are the familiar actions of dreamers & doers. For me, they’re muscle memory.

Resting? Not so much.

I started 2026 with some specific & non-specific goals. Gratefully, I can feel them blossoming. But as the season’s change, along with it does the soul. And I’m transitioning into one where I commit myself a bit differently. My loyalty, although it remains a strong trait, sees some shifts. The immediate future is marked by refined boundaries and adjusted goals.

I started therapy this year and the explorer in me has been so excited. I hold my identity (and how it informs my work) so very close. It’s grown mighty and now it’s time tend to it different — after all, maturity demands different nutrients than seeds & saplings. I’m posting this ‘out loud’ as a reminder to us: you… and myself. In a world that demands so much of us, remember the most natural, beautiful processes require restoration.

What do the corners of my spirit hold?
How will it continue to grow?
TBD.
But it’ll only sprout if I water it. 🌻

If you’ve read this far, you get my love.
And I’ll send you some even if you didn’t.

Yours truly,
Syreeta C
